anyway this one doens't requiere any special hardware (other than a pc), so normally there is no reason for a video... unless you miss this: http://www.rgba.org/prods/d3dx9_33_dll.zip and don't want to download it...

rulezadded on the 2007-11-03 22:29:21 by martin martin
tmb has a point. If this was produced by a scene graphician the critics would be ripping this apart!

I guess the same rules don't apply to coders.
Didn't you read what gargaj wrote?

Sure it's cute but the sounds are a bit of a letdown. But I guess it looks great for those who haven't seen any 4k's before, since they can relate to the real thing, thus helping in the outreach project.

ShanetheGhost : you, sir, are a moron. honestly, you just shouldn't comment on anything technical because it makes you look REALLY ignorant.
sucksadded on the 2007-11-04 01:34:20 by Maali Maali
syphus says my comment make me look ignorant so i'll just clarify; if this was "luxo realtime" then you could make a comment about ripped content because it would be ludicrously easy to do this as a demo. the fact is thought that it's "luxo 4k" and fitting such things in 4k is not easy.
heh. i was anticipating the whole luxo jr animation in 4k, but this is nice too.
rulezadded on the 2007-11-04 02:03:29 by phoenix phoenix
Nice error... (d3dx9_33), although using directx10, and directx 9.0c.... is there any way to view this 4k? if so, tell me....
Pete: It's not the intro I'm criticising (though it's not to my taste), it's the know it all art critics on this board who love to dismiss technical skills.

if this was "luxo realtime" then you could make a comment about ripped content because it would be ludicrously easy to do this as a demo. the fact is thought that it's "luxo 4k" and fitting such things in 4k is not easy.

I agree, but why can't the arty farty morons on here understand that the same thing applies to pixelling?
the "arty farty morons" are probably coders. i have no comprehension of the effort that goes into copying a picture by pixelling, so i keep my mouth shut about it. anyway, let's not spam the comments anymore.

If this was produced by a scene graphician the critics would be ripping this apart!

two things:
- hasnt competed at a compo
- the authors (or at least the people related) appreciated it.

even it's a nice animation in 4k.. it's *schleichwerbung* in germany we say... or product placement... even if they invited you ... however... nothing which should be placed on pouet... sorry...
added on the 2007-11-04 07:22:29 by ultra ultra
The good: Pixar saw it.
The bad: Pixar saw the same animation again.

A little variation in the scenario whould be great.

shane, badboy, etc: I think "If the source or algorithms were copied by a scene coder the critics would be ripping this apart!" applies better to coders... still being a coders doesn't give us the privilege to replicate content _and_ pretend it was ours, something we didn't do. That being said, I can understand your are still somehow concerned thou, but then I just don't care anymore.

martin, hm... it should work on your computer, we were a bit lame this time and didn't use any shader :(

btw, real sorry about the sounds, they were admittedly done in quite a rush and Iq has a GM.DLS version which sounds a lot better than my version (smaller too), but we discussed it and decided to make it a REAL 4k (as in, no "cheating"), and it sounded different on several computers anyway :o
added on the 2007-11-04 19:53:54 by Gargaj Gargaj
haha, gargaj, you were faster than me just by few seconds, I was about to comment on that:

I wasted too many bytes on the gfx and didn't managed to give Gargaj enough room for a decent sound system - yet he managed to make some! I'll improve this, I always learn from mistakes.

gargaj + iq: I respect you both loads and respect the talent this intro takes. Just playing devils advocate here...as usual.
Fine idea and good execution, amusing prod. (rulez)
Lack of clearing the backbuffer in order to avoid appearance of flickering memory trash on the sides of the screen when scissor test is enabled. (ewww)
I like it more than a piggy-prod however.

Good reproduction in 4k, but ... is this really how you inspire a bunch of professional 3D artists to join the demoscene?
added on the 2007-11-05 09:25:57 by Steel Steel
I don't know, after a driver update, still does not work. My gfx hardware is lame, it does not support simpler things than modern shaders, like framebuffer objects, etc...
Anyway thx for video once again.

they were perplexed to say the last - at the time of the "compo" it was actually slightly over size, which i pointed out too, citing that we had no time to do it properly.

in other words, i told them "sorry, we couldnt do it properly, we're 100 bytes over 4k."

... the looks i got ... ("you're a hundred bytes over WHAT?!")
