Probably because the duck model is a demoscene staple from the old days. "Pop culture" references in other forms of entertainment grow as the form ages, the demoscene is no different. The 3DS duck, raster bars, the Second Reality theme, these are our "Rosebud", our "Luke, I'm Your Father". Voting moves from your head to your heart. That yes you get the joke, the reference, and remember where you where when you first saw it with some nostalgia. |
