looks somewhat unfinished to me, screen looks a bit too empty.
Well if they use all 5 bitplanes for the scanline effect, it's hard to put anything on top of that :)
only 4 bpl's are used for the main effect. even if they would have used 5, sprites are your friend ;)
I seem to remember the effect being coded at the digital party in 1991 in the real time demo comp.
It was not finished in time and I think this intro was released later, I agree with Stingray, a one bitplane scroller over the top or some sprites would have made it more complete.
