screens look cool but it doesn't work here. you have a video? plays the first chord and dead crashes.

on that: could you all sceners atleast test those ogl prods on ati before releasing. you want it to run everywhere don'tcha? ;)
added on the 2012-03-24 01:31:36 by yumeji yumeji
yumeji: Is anything written to error_log.txt? I'll make a video tomorrow. I've never used kkapture before but it seems to be popular.
added on the 2012-03-24 01:34:01 by fizzer fizzer
flat and bokeh. output seems to be reserved. :/

and yeah. use kkapture. if you're popular you cool. :D
added on the 2012-03-24 01:45:54 by yumeji yumeji
No way. I can't call the output from my fragment shader 'output'?..
added on the 2012-03-24 01:49:21 by fizzer fizzer
crashes here, too.

Bobic: Do you have any information from error_log.txt?
added on the 2012-03-24 02:23:42 by fizzer fizzer
OpenGL 4.0 is not supported. is the error i got, guess my hardware is not good enough.

Great work! Liking the dof & voxelisation ;) Best thing I've seen this month.
rulezadded on the 2012-03-24 09:23:07 by UnRAVeL UnRAVeL
very nice, especially for a first prod.

one thing bothers me, though: why did you use libSDL? OpenGL and sound init routines are pretty simple on windows, so for windows-only prod you don't need any helper libraries at all. libSDL is mainly used on linux or for porting stuff.

Fizzer: Nothing is written into the error_log.txt and no message is shown on screen.

All done by yourself and 1st prod ?? this is madness !!!

Seriously what an excellent demo, direction, effects and music fits very nicely together.
I really appreciate the TV set dot emulation and the "painting" effect at greetings part.

Imho the scene with the white cubes is a bit too fast, the cubes seem to flicker/shiver.

Oh and usually PacMan doesn't blink his eye ;)
rulezadded on the 2012-03-24 10:40:47 by BackSpace BackSpace
any chance for a video? (=
Thank you all for your feedback! It seems like I've misjudged the average OGL version =(. Also, it doesn't work with kkapture unfortunately.
added on the 2012-03-24 11:42:04 by fizzer fizzer
Does not work here. Sad. Error log without an entry. A Video would be nice.

Argh, this is so annoying. Sorry guys, it must be something I've done wrong. No idea what it is though...

Very good and original visuals. Is that your first? Then it's really really good for first.
rulezadded on the 2012-03-24 13:30:59 by Optimus Optimus
Awesome and stylish. A bit faster pace and some kind of a higher concept wouldn't hurt the direction, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with the demo. Looking forward to your next one!

This was pretty damn cool.
rulezadded on the 2012-03-24 14:37:57 by Zplex Zplex
Easily the best firstie I've ever seen. What Preacher said for the most part, too. Also I'd like to add I loved the rendering on the voxel part. Keep it up! :)
rulezadded on the 2012-03-24 14:55:09 by ferris ferris
oh, and my main criticism: the music sounded like a cheap 4k tune. But again, GREAT for a one-man firstie!

damn

after watching the video because the demo won't run: great stuff!

I've uploaded a YouTube video with disappointing quality and framerate (my first time using YT and capture). Meanwhile I will put more effort into verifying the compatibility of my future prods (and making the music less 4k-ish). Thanks again for your comments!

you should have released this at revision, really =)

Very good as a first demo or not. Some nice rendering here. Puts many established groups to shame
rulezadded on the 2012-03-24 16:34:53 by smash smash
For some reason VERY sub 4k-ish in places (music, font, limited sync), but the actual effects are rather well done. :)

Good stuff!

Looks great for a firstie! Well, except the greetings part. Tune has too random melodies and sounds more like cheap 4k track, indeed. Otherwise, good work!
rulezadded on the 2012-03-24 17:21:45 by Serpent Serpent
woah, just checked the readme. You're not the same guy that was in YUP for a time back in '06, are you?? :D
added on the 2012-03-24 17:23:40 by ferris ferris
I couldn't get it to run either (W7, NVIDIA 570 GTX), but watching the video I like what I see - a lot of promise! The music was really not good at all, try getting a group together or working with a musician and your next demo will be smashing. :)
rulezadded on the 2012-03-24 17:49:15 by gloom gloom
A couple of very sweet effects, not too much flow and the music was... interesting. Good job anyways.
rulezadded on the 2012-03-24 17:52:29 by msqrt msqrt
Ferris: Yes I am! I didn't realise you were that guy (but I suspected a little). I don't remember producing anything but back then I didn't even know C++.

wysiwtf: Really? Maybe next year after I have learned to synch, at least.

I have to agree with Ferris. Easily the best firstie that I'm aware of!!

Few comment: Faster phase and maybe better transitions would be nice. Also the first scene was a bit dull and font is ugly. But these are really just minor things, excellent work!
rulezadded on the 2012-03-24 20:27:08 by waffle waffle
Very nice! Retro part doesn't fit that well. I especially liked pacman and greets.
And firstie? Go on, bring more! :)
rulezadded on the 2012-03-24 20:52:50 by baah baah
Not bad. I like the effect in the greetings part. The music could be better.
rulezadded on the 2012-03-24 23:26:52 by blala blala
The music is archaic but this thumb goes for the visuals and the shader work! Surely among the best first-prods.
rulezadded on the 2012-03-24 23:36:29 by noby noby
duznt run on my PC, but it's a glamorous firstie! :))
Looks great! Me like!
rulezadded on the 2012-03-25 00:38:42 by Soya Soya
watched the video. if this is a first demo and procedural generated, then you might consider writing a 64k or 4k next time! anyway, thumbs up for fresh new stuff! i like the pacman scene the most.
rulezadded on the 2012-03-25 08:25:42 by rudi rudi
As others have mentioned, this is really great as a first demo. A lot of nice renderings.
A lot of potential - keep coding and you will rock later!

Motivational thumb. Basically what everyone said: great rendering, cheap music, no sync. But I surely would love to see more from you :)

some interesting things but horrible colors, horrible font, horrible logo (no logo in fact...) and horrible music...

w00t!

Nothing to add really. Interesting visuals, fairly simple effects but with an interesting spin. Can't say anything about the music that hasn't already been said. I think that with a really upbeat, retro style soundtrack this would've been kickass :D.

i love the part with the cubes

"OpenGL init failed." in my error_log.txt file. It is probably because I still use a 3.33333... years old ATI Radeon 4870 PCIe video card (512 MB of RAM) and very old, updated Windows XP Pro. SP3. :( I watched YouTube video, and it was decent. :)

now that i've seen it... it's good, but you REALLY need a musician.
added on the 2012-04-01 10:54:04 by aegis aegis
It's a nice demo (I enjoyed the utmost of the pacman effect) but the music is bad and not matching the whole demo at all!
added on the 2012-04-03 08:29:01 by voXfReaX voXfReaX
this is actually pretty awesome.

but, to improve i'd suggest that you a) hook up with a "director/designer" and b) hook up with a better musician.

i liked the greetings the most.
