Disk Maggie 13 by Maggie Team

      Just-one-more-thing productions proudly presents:-

           LOOK-AT-ME!! - The 'Zine within a 'zine..
                Another day, another Maggie....

--Compiled by Idiots, delayed by Students!!--

Issue 13, finished (well 95%) on the 13th January 1994, how
appropriate..

COME IN NUMBER NINE, YOUR TIME IS UP....

I say 95% done as we are awaiting two very late arriving textfiles
from someone up in Liverpool who has just changed his address, he
will 'get in touch' with the new one, but it seems, not this
week.. As he attends the university there, I have had Kev, (K-
Klass of lovely picture on main menu fame) carry out what is known
as 'Electronic Whingeing' on my behalf as Leon (Oops what a
giveaway!) is on the University E-Mail system..

Maybe tomorrow, we'll be lucky.. More on that one later..

THE USUAL....

I suppose you want to know what's inside.. Well stop reading this
textfile and get loading!! Maggie is still very much Falcon
compatible, and so it ought to be, as assembly, checking and
debugging were all done on my machine without a sniff of an ST
getting involved.. But if you are not running it in ST-Medium res,
then you are in biiiiig trouble!! The screen goes all funny..

THE AMIGA CLUB IS REALLY EXTREMELY DEAD THIS TIME....

In a very similar textfile in issue 12, I told you of the
'killing-off' of our local Amiga club.. Unfortunately, like
certain species of other dinosaurs, the message from nerve-ending
to puny brain takes some time to travel, and it is only in this
early part of January that the message they are really not wanted
seems to have finally come home..

THE DUTCH BLOKE IN FULL....

Richard Karsmakers of ST-News is now fully Falcon-fitted and ready
to roll.. He has had a machine since the end of November, but
informs me that this does not dim his commitment to keeping the
'ST' part of ST-News well and truly alive.. The present GEM style
menu is unlikely to change either.. Fans of ST-News may like to
note that with the sound turned off, it is totally 'transparent'
to things such as System Audio Manager and any DeskACC-based
module player such as Proplay on the Falcon.. Give it a whirl..

STEN IS DEAD....

More on this in the issue proper.. STEN succumbed to collective
fatigue on the part of the authors who decided it wasn't fun
anymore.. So they got out..

ABOUT BLOODY TIME....

Today, the 14th January 1994, I hear that the overpricing
practices of the 'big two', Sega and Nintendo are to be subject to
an investigation by the Monopolies and Mergers Commission after a
flood of complaints to the Office of Fair Trading. This led them
to conclude that a system of competitive pricing was not in
operation.. Sega are said to be surprised, but will co-operate
with any investigation.. Lots of comparisons with the favourable
price situation in the USA have also been made..

The market for 'videogames' (assuming they mean console/cartridge
systems only) is estimated to be worth £700 million in the UK
alone.. Perhaps it should only be "worth" £300 million!! (Tee
hee!)

STENCH OF FAILURE????

It is still early days for the 3DO but problems have been arising
for this new system.. Sanyo, developers of the 'cheap' 3DO may
well be pulling out.. Many of the 300 developers are involved in
such non-exciting projects as educational software.. People may
even have been returning their units in the USA, disappointed with
what was on offer.. More definite news in a future issue..

FRONTIER HANDY HINTS....

People have been really getting into this game in a way not seen
for years on the ST, or any other computer for that.. Some very
useful SAVEGAME files are included elsewhere on this disk, but for
those people determined not to cheat, their best course of action
is as follows.. Get to Barnards Star from your start position on
Merlin, then sell all your non-essential equipment such as the
missiles, scanner, atmospheric shielding etc. (You may even go as
far as removing the laser, but only you are the judge of that..)
Load up with computers or robots and go to Sol (Earth system)..
Buy luxury goods or similar there, and just trade back and forth
between these two systems until you have built up enough cash to
trade up your ship and get the weapons/extras you want.. YOU WILL
NOT BE ATTACKED IN EITHER OF THESE TWO SYSTEMS (So I have been
told..) Don't forget to check out the BBS before selling your
cargo, as occasionally someone offers double the usual price for
robots..

AMSTRAD CDI....

Amstrad are to launch their own interactive CD-player based on the
Phillips CDI technology.. The question, of course, is whether
Amstrad are providing deep and meaningful support, development and
care and attention for the consumer/entertainment electronics
industry.. Or whether they have merely spotted another way to make
a quick and easy buck by jumping on to the CD-bandwagon..
Experienced Amstrad-watchers will instantly realise that the above
question has answered itself!!

HOORAY IT'S ALL DONE....

Today, the 27th January 1994 is now the new 'official' release
date for Maggie 13, the 'missing' text files and screenshots
having arrived at long last from Liverpool, courtesy of
'snailpost' (Thanx Leon!) The final assembly was almost
straightforward as one of his textfiles managed to get itself
deleted before my horrorstruck eyes.. A quick rescue mission with
KnifeST was needed before it was all smiles again.. Another last
minute addition is a large and comprehensive capture file
concerning the Jaguar, with loads of well-known stuff, but some
relatively little-known facts as well.. WIth testing, etc, I am
fast running out of things to do on this issue, so it looks like I
will have to release it after all...

This is one of those rare issues with respect to the 'extras' on
the disk.. For a change, the ST community has got a fair deal, but
as the two ST mini-demos also run on the Falcon as well, the
Falcon folk have got a even better deal!!! Well....

SOON COMING (V.V.HOT NEWS!)....

DBA (Disk Busters Association) now have their new Falcon-specific
Diskzine shell ready, but they need some articles to be able to
release a new issue.. (Get writing fellas, it's a tough, tough
world out there for getting contributions from people!) A sample
demo by them for the Falcon called 'Rave the Christmas' is now in
my hands.. More next issue..

Synergy have a new two-disk ST demo out, we are waiting for the
second disk to turn up!! It features loads of their famous 'SID-
Voice' soundchip wizardry and what we have seen so far is very
nice..

Atari to FINALLY release the long-awaited 'Llamazap' and other
releases for the Falcon in the next few weeks...

Loads of Falcon demos confidently predicted for the next issue as
well.. EKO (Extremely Kriminal Organisation) seem to be
particularly active with two new ones, even a game may well emerge
from them as well.. (It is called 'H2O' but no other details yet.)

Titan Designs are getting involved in games production across the
entire ST(E)/Falcon range with their new label, Inspiration FX..
Titles announced include 'Brain Dead' for the STE, 'Munchkins' for
the ST, and 'Wayfarer' for the Falcon..

An extremely groovy and well-coded desk accessory 'FLI' animation
player has reached me this week.. it is by the French developers
Brainstorm, and allows you to run more than one FLI 'movie' at
any one time on the desktop, and even from within GEM programs!!
More next issue, but this looks like being a strong contender for
DeskACC of the year!!

I'M BORED, OUT OF IDEAS, WHY IS EVERYONE ELSE NOWHERE TO BE FOUND,
WHY ARE WE ALL HANGING ON A WIRE... Time to go I think.. Bye..
