Space WORM

                         .-------------.
                         | SpaceWORM |
                         `-------------'

"Even in space, worms are brown."
                                            -Me

Introduction
------------

SpaceWORM was developed for the 256 byte game challange posted to the
Internet in the rec.games.programmer group. It was my intention to
develop a fun game to play, not simply a minimal "game" in 256 bytes.

System Requirements
-------------------

SpaceWORM requires an IBM PC (or compatible) running DOS and a CGA or
better color screen. This program will run on an 8088, but a 286 or
  better processor is best.

Running SpaceWORM
-----------------

SpaceWORM has one optional command line parameter. If you wish to run
SpaceWORM with sound effects, at the DOS prompt simply type: SW and
press the enter key. If you wish to run SpaceWORM in quiet mode, at the
DOS prompt simply type: SW Q and press the enter key. In either case,
after pressing the enter key, you will hear a confirmation beep and be
immediately be placed in control of SpaceWORM.

Controlling SpaceWORM
---------------------

SpaceWORM is controlled by use of the left and right shift keys. The
speed of SpaceWORM automatically increases as time passes.

Scoring Points
--------------

The object of the game is to control SpaceWORM so that it collects as many
gold diamonds as possible. One point is awarded for each gold diamond
  that the SpaceWORM eats.

Your current score is always displayed in the upper left corner of your
  screen.

Ending the Game
---------------

The game ends when the SpaceWORM collides with an asteroid. Asteroids are
  displayed as large white blocks.

When the game ends, the screen will clear and your final score will be
  displayed.

Features
--------

  * Speed (level of difficulty) increases as time passes
  * Full scoring capability, score always displayed
  * Sound effects that play in the background
  * Two color background stars add depth to the playing field
  * Smooth keyboard control via the shift keys
  * Auto speed adjust for different CPUs
  * Quiet operation (no sounds to alert your boss)
  * Very playable (fun)
  * Well behaved program with clean exit to DOS
  * Source code available
  * Entire game is only 256 bytes!

Source Code
-----------

Fully commented source code will be sent (via e-mail) to anyone who
e-mails me to tell me how great my game is!
