Hunting down Bonus by Macaw, 1st place at The Elite Encounter 1999.. Anyone any ideas?
category: general [glöplog]
Anyone have any idea how to find this demo / group or get in touch with them in order to find this demo?
MACAW: BONUS
1999-10 - 1st Place at The Elite Encounter'99 Demo-Competition
I'm basically trying to hunt down a screenshot / video of it, but I can't even find the prod itself on scene.org! Or on google.
Any ideas?

I am here. Prod is not.
winner of elite encounter is too elite to be archived!
The whole party seems to be conspicuously absent from Pouet, Scene.org, Demozoo...
for elites only!
I can only find two references on google to this demo and party.
One here:
http://www.lackluster.org/demos
and the other (cached) here:
http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:1FTgqLRJ5QoJ:paradise.untergrund.net/tmp/distance/Personal/SCENEORG/public_html/demo
first site says "lackluster"
second one says "distance/tpolm / Esa Juhani Ruoho (aka Lackluster)"
They aren't anything to do with you original poster (distance)?

OK sorry, I sussed it. you did the music, but as rasmus/loonies == macaw.. and has replied..
As stated, the only reference to that demo or party itself is on your own pages.

Title: bOnus
Party: EE99
Competition: Demo
Rank: 1
bonus2.zip
shame the file is missing from waybackmachine, but at least the filename has been found.

A screenshot too.
good find considering it wasn't linked with the prod details like the others!

ps: obviously! elite is as elite does.

arcane: neat, so that's about as close as we can get to the release since EE'99 is not on scene.org..

Canopy, pretty nice searching.. yeah. I wonder if bonus2.zip will ever pop up.. If the sourcecode is lost on rasmus's side..then i guess it's gone. I did get a random facebook message from someone suggesting i use Usenet to find it but i don't know how to do that.
there are a lot of prods missing from 1999 - 2000 period and certainly that is not a coincidence...
...and by coincidence i don't mean a conspiracy. It's the cd era, prods don't fit in floppys, people are bored to write cds, internet fucking slow on most countries and proper web hosts are sparse, so no back ups, hard drive crashes and prod is lost forever.
And there I was thinking I was the only one who permanently lost data those days.

thanks. actually i found some old stuff including robotnik by rage (from '97) on an old backup cd at the weeked.. so it could be that someone out there unknowingly has it on a CD or backup in their archives.

Someone friendly with one of those subscription newgroups/usenet accounts might be able to help..
the weird thing is. i have the idea that i saw that logo before. but maybe because it's so generic :)
i think i found it. was digging through old CD-Rs and found this in some collection of demos i somehow kept from 1998-2003:
http://dump.maali.nl/korn.zip apparently it is called 'korn' because macaw used some pictures of the band KoRn. probably also the reason why i kept it cos 20000 years ago i was into numetal. :)

I'm not sure what to do with it. I have 0 skills with dosbox or virtualbox
I made a capture through dosbox, uploading to youtube now.. will be at http://youtu.be/k75NinhXYk0 in an hour or two
hit a couple of bugs btw, first was that the demo doesn't clear whole framebuffer on startup, causing some glitches if I restart the demo at the middle. I fixed that by restarting dosbox before doing the capture. Second bug is that the demo doesn't quit, so the video is a bit longer than the demo itself, with some of the music looped, hope you don't mind.. =)
Okay, it's there now.
just as bad as i remembered it :)
