modizer : iphone/ipad mod player
category: music [glöplog]
Hi there,
If you have followed the "ipod mod player" thread you are already aware of my upcoming app for iphone/ipad : a mod player supporting a large number of format, including videogame devices from sega, nintendo, nec & sony.
Beta 3 is available at http://yoyofr92.free.fr/modizer.
I also have started to blog on it (some screenshots & video can be found) : http://yoyofr.blogspot.com.
I don't plan to add new feature on this version, I just want to ensure it's as bug free as possible and then submit it to apple for appstore distribution.
If you want to participate to beta testing, please send me an email at "ymagnien at gmail dot com" with the device you own and your UID (can be found in itunes by clicking on the serial number on the device summary tab).
Currently modizer features :
- mod support (libmodplug & UADE) : nearly all mod format are supported.
- AHX/Hively support
- adlib music (libadplug).
- nes, snes, gb, genesis/megadrive, sms, pcengine, ... (libGME)
- playstation 1 & 2 (however ps2 playback is often too slow)
- atari st & amstrad cpc YM files (stsound)
- commodore 64 (sidplay2/resid)
- MODLAND collection supported
- HVSC collection supported
- WEB browsing & downloading supported (zip, lha/lzh, rar, gz)
- playlists
- rating
- visualizers : mod patterns (only for libmodplug), 2D & 3D spectrum analyzers, oscillos, beats, ...
- background playback & remote control on iOS 4

Too bad I don't have any iPhone but at least, I just told the internets about you were looking for bugs :)
rebleeted
I tried the beta2 (iPod touch 2g, JB), it's awesome. Gonna check out the new version, too. Keep up the good work!
I sent an email... should I be expecting a reply?
Beta3 works fine on my JB iPhone 3G, great app! The only remark I have is enabling/disabling the visualizers, for me it's totally unintuitive...
modplug used to murder(totally ruin) mod.cream by Romeo Knight, best check that out as no clue if they fixed their shit replayer.
Ah, yes, I have tried it now, and it works wonderfully! I'm also on a jailbroken iPhone 3G. Sound is great, visuals are very smooth. I really enjoy it.
it seems to run on an ipod 1g, but where exactly should i place the modfiles for local browsing?
it's eating memory pretty easy tho, browsing to modland.com makes it crash after going from 40mb down to 9mb.
Really a great app, thanks for that! Works perfectly on my iPhone 4G (writing that comment from it with Modizer playing an Audiomonster's classic in background:))
You know, it would be cool to have a desktop version of this app as well ... It'd be like itunes, but with mods/sid etc :)
@dlz : local browsing takes files from the app documents dir.
The best way to add files manually is using the built-in FTP server (wifi connection)
Currently I don't have optimized memory usage in the browser so yes it can allocate a lot of space...
Is it not too slow on iPod 1g ?
I ve also detected & fixed some bugs so a beta4 should be available very soon

can't tell, it sadly crashes as soon as i want to play a tune .. been trying it out on various formats :(
Do you know how many free ram you have on iPod 1g?
Btw, could you send me the crash report ?
Here are the guidelines to get them : http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/ipad/#documentation/xcode/conceptual/iphone_development/145-Distributing_Applications/distributing_applications.html

it's 40mb before starting modizer, 26mb left when modizer is started, 18mb after the crash. goes back up to 35mb soon after recovering.
Beta 4 is available at the usual place.
If you encounter crash, please send me the crash logs!
Guidelines are given at my website (it's basically the guidelines from apple).
To people having sent me an email to participate the beta test and not already registered, I'll do a global update a bit later (no time right now).

Beta 5 is available here : http://yoyofr92.free.fr/modizer/modizer_beta5.ipa
It features SC68 & SNDH support and some bugfixes.
There is still an issue with UADE & subsong : when playing a mod with subsongs, the first subsong is looped once. It will be fixed in next version.
Please note that SC68/SNDH support is preliminar & not really tested yet.

Hoi - are new UID's added? :) Looking forward to trying it out
New UID are not added to the file available at my website, but I can send it to you via email (I cannot update my website before tonight).
If you're eager to test, mail me at ymagnien at gmail dot com and I'll send you the updated mobile provisioning profile file.

oh no, tonight is soon enough - I'm at work as well, so I also can't do anything until I get home, but thanks for asking :)
Playing with beta 4 and loving it so far, esp the iOS4 integration. I had no idea that was possible, so it really surprised me when the iPod controls were working!
I wonder, have you thought about adding last.fm support? :D
