Crysis dx10 on windows xp?!

category: general [glöplog]
I can see why microsoft want to push DX10 so much. What else is there in vista that really sells to people?

Xenusion: I played the crysis demo too, good work on it. I won't be actually paying for it, but I won't be playing it for free either. I couldn't help disliking the americans intensely, and admiring the koreans for at least fighting honourably with normal weapons. I take it there's no option to change sides? :)

Good point there zest, what do we do with our bioshock copies in 3 years if we want to re play them? Worst case scenario we now both have a nice case to use as a paperweight.

Ironic, if i stop paying for games to hurt the publisher so they wont use all that anticopy tinfoilery, i am at risk of putting the people out of business whoms games i enjoy to play. =/

as long as ppl are leeching the games that are not or only barely copyprotected and stuff their money into valve the situation will get worser for everyone.

but what is the rationale xenusion? The supposedly hard protected stuff gets cracked and released with a new installer, or a crackfile instead, so what is really gained through it?

I understand that 5-10 years ago before the advent of 20mbit internet and personal supercomputers. back when people where swapping cd's maybe there was a point to it, as in it would prevent most users from making working copies and distribute among their mates. But today? whats the point? que bono, and how?

Francis P.Yockey: horizons aren't that dark, a lot of well-off people (teens are another case) seem to buy games, specially since Steam has improved a lot, and it's even more true when games provide a multiplayer mode with official servers, but those same people do often use cracks or cd/dvd emulation to prevent being hassled by intrusive protections (please insert the original disk blablabla...)

yeah im one of those people, i DO use cracks on my games (when possible) for that very same reason. Back in the days we swapped games faster than the disk could be written. But today i know next to noone who doesnt buy their games. That said, im 30 so i dont have the time i used to anymore and thus are a lot more selective with what i spend my sparetime on. helps to keep the budgets down compared to back when i had to play a game just because it was new hehe.

But I hope you are right, and that publishers realise that they cant treat paying costumers like they are doing.

another smart way to defeat piracy is to build strong communities around games, modders can help a lot if they are given modding tools :)

publishers have integrated those web tactics, they are hiring community managers, or have recourse to their ultimate promotion virus if they are called ubisoft :

i was talking about stream and any online activation like with bioshock.

usually ppl buy one game and leech 5 others coz they dont have/want spent more money on games.
guess which one will get bought?

the crap from valve with online activation.

when sceners got their job in industry i guess they don't want to leech games anymore. except some do, but most guys buy their games so they can play online. and c'mon, original games ftw!

is that really the case? valves stuff gets cracked aswell, i found a steam client that allows me to access and download all the games avaible.

zest: i agree, that is a good way to handle the situation, make people feel they are part of the process. Nothing beats the wrath of a fanboy ignoted.

Apart from that i would call neither Valve games nor the only WORKABLE solution for purchasing games online "crap".. in Europe and USA that is. Interestingly South Korean game companies have stuff running that's way beyond what Steam et al. have to offer.

MS's "Games for Windows" iniitiative isn't much more than another futile marketing ploy for Vista in its current shape. Good old Xbox Live was awesome for its time, but nowadays other online gaming systems are good enough to make the idea of a subscription service for PC gaming look quite ridiculous. Especially because at a first glance it seems go try to get the advantages of the console world to the PC but fails miserably in that matter. Stuff still won't work for whatever reason, and there'll still be lots of crap released because nobody gives a fuck about at least some quality control - and that's the one thing Steam does right IMO.

xeNusion: i wouldn't say that bioshock and crysis are direct competitors, bioshock was released 2 monthes ago, and bioshock is more console-oriented (but with a good PC version for once!) and runs on average configs whereas crysis is a PC-only killergame made for hardcore gamers, a killerapp that is supposed to make people buy new hardware (and vista) :p

the problem is more general, why releasing crysis among the pre-xmas rush and clash, do you think mommies will offer crysis to their sweet kids, or girlfriends to their boyfriends ? i don't think so. A hardcore game like Crysis would do fine prolly better if it were released when the competition is weaker...

just my eurocents, i don't know the real sales figures.

zest. millions of people will be playing crysis, that much is for damn sure. And i expect to get a signed copy from the creators along with the other 8 guys who dish out for it. :p

xernobyl: I was thinking more that they don't rely on ultra-high tech armoured suit things that give you a massive unfair advantage, but instead just have a uniform and a rifle. Like I said, more honourable :)

Even M$ is giving for free, stuff like: Vista, VStudio2008, Silver*shit* to academic students!! (*verified*)

So, what you all folks are talking about?? offcourse a strong enterprise as Crytek, has the will and the funds to use the lastest shit from M$, whenther or not it represents a great improvement. (DX10 not a new improvement at all).... but hey kids! , this way is how bussiness works for M$!!!
yes, we as users/coders/gamers are totally fucked,...again!

How long you expected to continue use yer "old" radeon? they must keep on selling new metal and fucking O.Ses
This time that "bussiness" strategy became too obvious...and it's more funny

Crysis dx10 on windows xp?!
hacking some .cfg files and let you run the game on XP + Dx10 satisfies the lines I've just wrote... M$ is playing with us, again, is anyone surprised? == So, what you all folks are talking about??

I dunno If I pissed too far from the WC, considering the fact, that so many people was talking more off-topic sutff than me
I.ex. : copyprotection schemes, BioShock, Koreans, valve steam stuff ,etc...

;) take it easy, huh? now go to kill some koreans!
