No rapes either, please.
I surely thing Magic should create some formal tests and work closely with coders to implement them as pouet moves forward.
nic0: do you think they can get the synergy to give the right edge to the product? Are the focus groups responding positively on the social media outings and do we have a team of social media experts ready to distribute the Pouet brand to the people in a way that will bring positive revenue to the site?
This is a dog eat dog world and we need to make sure our goals are durable yet also proven to be achievable using the creative teams know-how and technical skill-set.
Let's not forget that, from a business perspective, we need to not just reach the public, but also engage them in a full social experience that will anchor our brand in their minds as the only possible solution or demoscene distribution and news.
Things like Facebook integration, hashtag support and a Vine video portal are essential to keep the audience engaged and will make sure they will come back for more social interaction with like-minded individuals, that will all speak positively about Pouet on their social media.
Global release parties when the site is finally 'bug free' should be held with video links from venue to venue. I think I can get Skrillex to play easily on this event, linking the youth movement to our product and reaching that difficult to convinve 'tween' audience aged 12-18.

kusma: I don't have anything against your ideas. I have something against just assuming that a product is faulty and that's what I'm trying to defend here.
okkie: i don't have anything against your ideas.
D.Fox: Scroll back and read again, I'm not assuming anything like that.
Stop fighting and start improving.
How about making a nightly build with automated test (at least for new submissions) if test passes then move to production.
It is not that this site will cause much damage if immature features are deployed and verified in production.

kusma: did that. and even though I might be overreacting a little, I stand by what I wrote. There seems to be little confidence in something somebody put a lot of work into - and that's disappointing to me.
But hey, everybody else seems to be happy again, so let's move on to more important things.

kusma: while automated testing, multiple developers sharing code through Git and all that jazz is A Good Thing(tm) overall, lets not forget that we largely have Gargaj to thank for the speed and stability of v0.9. That alone ought to be enough to give his statements about 2.0 credence.
But I'm not really concerned about that, but more about how it happened. They are two separate issues and this whole thread is moving in the direction of "weeeeell, we don't condone the unethical work the doctor did to those people's brains, but hey - we can't just THROW AWAY the research either", which bothers me immensely.
As a community, I can't accept that we just stand back and watch while these events unfold. I for one don't want to be a part of something where Leia's analogy is almost spot on. Dfox ftw as well.
It's just not ok.

Well, yes. Bailing boats is unglamorous, but it is hard to do that and build boats at the same time -- oh yes and launch other websites and make prods and run or help out with parties and also do a day job and side work. Let those who complain about speed think on that.
Maybe what happened here will be a lesson that folks need to slow down and think about the wider implications of their decisions before making them, and my halfassed attempt at mediation (speaking of not thinking) doesn't mean that somebody else with more of a clue who intervened might not have been able to put on the brakes. And that would have been nice.
So in my present mood, I appreciate Okkie's humor right now. Send in the clowns, and go dissect and solve this on IRC and email.
Gargaj hasn't been commenting a lot here and I imagine that is because he has been busy fixing stuff and getting no sleep.

psonice clearly won the thread.
i tend to agree with gloom that it's not ok to just do nothing and do as if analogue hadn't done what he has done. it's just not ok

i really don't feel okey with being part of pouet community unless analogue steps back and disappears forever. even if Gargaj is not working with him (or "for" him), i feel watching and pretending nothing happened is still the wrong thing to do.
furthermore, how the hell do i destroy my pouet account? i don't find it. i don't want to be listed as an active user.

There isn't a way, but you can replace your name with dashes or something. I found that back when I found the turn off images setting.
we should start a 'ANALOGUE FUCK OFF AND TAKE YOUR OPENSOURCE GARBAGE WITH YOU'-petition ;)
or he might get upset and act like a 5yo and delete our accounts then. but that would have the same effect ;)
so much drama in this thread :(

Not really, more like because I don't feel I could say anything I didn't say before.

have any of you that are advocating for mutiny actually asked gargaj if he's even interested in returning to his overlord position after what just happened? ofcourse i can't speak on his behalf, but my bet is, despite his hurt feelings towards analogue for the stunt, that he's kind of relieved to not be the headmaster anymore, and be able to focus on other things.
No, to be honest, and I know this is gonna sound weird but administrating Pouet for me felt like a sense of duty and purpose, I actually enjoyed it a lot more than I might have let it seem. It wasn't the code part really (that _was_ a bit painful, although working on Pouet2 with Tomoya was a lot of fun), but the general ability to "make things happen" for other projects by providing queries or statistics or small APIs for specific purposes.
But to be interested, I don't know. All I wanted, really, is to be able to finish my work, and then afterwards either remain at the helm while need be, or find someone to pass it off to - passing off the current Pouet just seemed like a cruel thing to do so I just wanted to make sure that whoever takes over the wheel can work in a relatively decent environment - that was part of my motivation to do it. Not the best, but at least more reasonable to maintain and expand than the previous one.
As it stands right now, I kinda feel my contribution isn't really necessary for what is going on (there's the source, go nuts), but I am concerned about how divisive these events were or are (and frankly, how disproportionate this division is - yeah I know, I have a fanclub, but really you should see the list of people who confided in private and DIDN'T post here), and the rather technocratic / utilitarian methods that have been employed, and within that how unreasonably arbitrary they are: E.g. why not share the DB? Just remove the users table, that data comes from SceneID anyway, even the userID's match. Nothing else is personal unless you count the stuff like logo or scene.org-award-candidate votes. Hell I can provide you a cleaned (post-migrate) version, I have a recent backup from Sunday right here. (*wink*)
Administrating a site (especially at this size) is a lot more than just acting like a nightly-git-pull-robot; I'd wager during my tenure I spent a lot less time coding and a lot more time negotiating, listening, on occasion arguing, and a lot of times just staying silent while events unfold. It's part of your responsibility to BE AROUND. To RESPOND and REACT, and to TAKE THE FLAK. And no you don't have to always agree with the majority - hell that's why I didn't do the Youtube-screenshot thing, and I don't regret it - but you have to explain yourself and sometimes to stand corrected. (Cue list of cases where I fucked this up, but hey.)
I am not concerned about a properly backed up site having software bugs. We had data loss before, that's why Redhound makes backups. But when the new top brass shows off an incredibly inappropriate method of conflict resolution _roughly 48 hours into their arrival_, that worries me.

Gargaj: lets just take pouet.v2 beta code with your sundae backup database and host it somewhere like there's no tomorrow!
so where are the updates? pouet has been opensource for a day now and nothing happened. tsk. even gargaj's service was better! i want that 8 years overdue edit button! or do i need to wait till it's christmas in new york?

This.
I was wondering if what w23 just said is possible in this variant. Finish v2.0, delete v0.9 open source, host finished v2.0 (opensource) or co-exist both next to eachother with different url. (?)
keep wondering, you're good at being clueless.
How about hosting it at http://new.pouet.net/index.php? Could that work?
