What's the exactly name of the Scene if we want to call it a movement?

category: general [glöplog]
anyhow, how about "nutman's hobby"?

skrebbel: I do too - there has to be something "in you", in order to find the scene interresting. I'd remind you that this thread started because he wanted to find an art-term to classify the demoscene.. I mean.. jeez :)

Our scene, who art at parties
hallowed be thy bass,
thy shadebobs come,
thy demos be done,
at Assembly as at Breakpoint.
Give us this day our daily real party outside,
And forgive us our theft of ideas,
as we forgive those
who still make sine scrollers.
And lead us not into oldskool,
but deliver us from rasterbars.
For thine is the AMIGAAA,
and the intel processors, and the scene.org award,
for ever and ever.
Amen.

I'm changing my vote to narcissism.

one day i wanted to compare the scene with last century's -isms, and i came to the conclusion that the scene is either free capitalism or competitive communism, the best of both worlds!

bassism
From all the suggestions I totally adore lug00ber's ones.
And Malli's. Technical dadaism? I always thought about this when browsing the random image thread :P
Maybe also nihilism or vanitism (?) no shit they suck..

I always wondered why we sometimes call the demoscene. the scene. Like it's the scene of the scenes or something.

I am blahing now so I should stop.

Uhm, here's a pretty obvious suggestion from the Linger In Shadow coverage at Gamespot:
Quote:
The title is a piece of interactive developed by a core group of folk from the European demoscene movement, all of about five people to be exact.

I wonder why nobody came up with that before.
Oh, here's the [url=http://uk.gamespot.com/news/blogs/preview-blog/909185203/26391658/sony-pre-e3-2008-linger-in-shadow-impressions.html?om_act=convert&om_clk=multimodule&tag=multimodule;picks;title;4]link[/link]
Oh, here's the link

*swears loudly*

My hobby is not with you loosers. ;)
Well, sometimes it is.....
i discovered the scene by following a link to a certain haujobb demo.
then i discovered bluephod, the best german blog/newssite in the early internet times (before the hype of blogs) because it was linked on the haujobb site. ;-)

according to googlism:
Quote:
demoscene is the underground part of the high level computer activities

and even more spot on:
Quote:
demoscene is the wrong place for a chili recipe imagine
"that computer movement you could hardly make money with" would have more sense in art circles.

You thing that demoscene is also outreach? I haven't know good the term, but outreach are also the effort of scene's groups, if I'mnt wrong.
Maybe demoscene isn't really a movement...
Maybe it's more a sort a community or a friendly competition...

Anyway, I haven't yet know why the scene can't be called with an Art-term... It's because they are non-profit productions in it? Or maybe because "demoscene" is already the right term?

The same way why you don't usually use names of car parts to describe colors.

Outreach is an effort by individuals in an organization or group to connect its ideas or practices to the efforts of other organizations, groups, specific audiences or the general public.
