Doubtless I'm about to open up another can of worms by bumping this thread yet again, but hey, maybe I have a masochistic streak or something.

Demozoo is now doing logins over OpenID. Hopefully, seeing sceneid.net doing something useful (at last!) will explain what it's about much better than another few pages of handwaving from me. So, if you've been left totally confused so far, or if you're a website admin vaguely considering OpenID and wondering how it can work in a demoscene setting, or if you want to scour the site looking for further evidence that what I'm doing is pure unadulterated evil... go take a look.

This is just an excuse to post more links, isn't it. I should have known it's all about your pagerank. Pah.

So, seriously, I have a question.

If I don't want my sceneid connected to any opeid, and i log in at demozoo with my sceneid now. What do you do with it? Connect it yourself or leave it at that?

what you guys do wrong is not tell your parents stuff to begin with. mine know perfectly well that i go to some german field and get wasted with nerd. they don't understand what i like about it, but i doubt my pictures on slengpung would somehow shock them. it's a matter of building up slowly over many years!

That wasn't why i asked :) I asked because I'm one of those people who doesn't want the same id all over the internet, i want the sceneid for demoscene pages.

I tried asking nicely if logging in to demozoo right now would mean i automatically said yes to hook my sceneid up with an openid. Because if that's so I'd like to know before I do that mistake :)

Oh and Skrebbel, there may be a bunch of people who have pretty damn good reasons for not telling their parents everything they do in the world.

Like people with an alcoholic parent may not want to tell the other parent about their drinking. Even if it's minor.

leijaa: Yep, I connect it myself. When you log in as 'leia', Demozoo will notice that it isn't a full OpenID URL and silently rewrite it to leia.sceneid.net*. This OpenID pops into existence the first time you log in.

So, strictly speaking, there is no way to log in to demozoo without having your sceneid connected to any openid. However, you don't have to use that openid anywhere else, or even care that it exists - if you choose not to do anything more with it, then it's just an implementation detail. I'm hoping that's acceptable, because if not, then I have to concede that it's impossible to keep every scener happy :-) ("And this is news *how* exactly?" - everyone in the world)

I think it's creepier to our own children to find out pictures of their parents on Slengpung than other way around. :)
