fix me beautifull

category: general [glöplog]
Sim: because I'm still not convinced we're not fucking up other entries and affiliations that were right before those fixes and dupes, as a side effect, it's that simple.

Keops: it is a point. DB stuff it is a complicated issue... but in fact we really never know in 1oo% 'till the problem encountered.

All in all dudes all I wanted was to:
1. correct the date, dupe, unproper groups affil's,
2. make a FINAL "bury the Hatchet" between the admins/gloperators and the "guilty" one(s). You know what I mean.

Thank you!
sim: i didn't want to offend or criticize your work in any way by asking gargaj to delete the prods. really, don't worry about that. we had a talk with keops and we both are agree that this mess is almost unsolvable.
gargaj, i'd seriously be up for a yes to give sim a lifetime gloperator status.

Irokos:
1. I know you are not criticizing. No problem.
Better off stopping the corrections now, than finding out at the end that it was without the effect we expected.

2. The mess.
If I may express my point. As you decide dudes, but I think we can work it out. As I told, I have already worked on it and even if there is 70-60% left to do, I believe it can be done.
From the other hand, I do not see everything at the first glance...sooo...
What I am sure, BP did not want to make it all like it is today...
Some errors would have been done even if sb would submit it manually.
But well, the subject is over.

3. Gloperator status.
Please be sure. I do not want to cause any misunderstanding between you and already quite a nice moderator's number.

i had planned to spend this evening on sim's fixes, but after reading the last bunch of posts i'm not really sure if that's a good idea, it's quite a lot of work that could go 100% to waste if it is decided to delete all the blackpanther stuff. the way i see it, there's basically two routes we can take from here:

1- all the blackpanther stuff gets the boot, and we resume to build the c64 database manually
2- the blackpanther stuff stays, and we do our best to get rid of dupes and fix whatever data is wrong

either way, a lot of data will probably be copied from csdb, simply because there is no better source in a lot of cases. i'm inclined to go for the second option, because i suspect it will be less work in the long run.

agreed. 2/3 of the gloperators are totally inactive, or only use their status for more or less questionable purposes. this, coupled with an almost complete lack of coordination brought me damn close to giving up on the site some time ago, it would be nice to go back to a situation where the majority of the team actually works to improve this place instead of playing "human mikado" all the damn time...

That would be the best IMHO since there are shitload of incorrectly added entries. Much faster and better to delete them all!

That's what I think.

But StingRay is right that this means lots of work...
Deleting is ok perhaps, but putting "everything" in gotta be considered as hell of work too, and other stuff I have no idea...

have fun fixing the mess bk's script caused... and I don't consider it a "hell lot of work" to write a script which uploads entries from csdb and messes up the db here.

I was talking about putting it one more time into the DB. I thought I was clear =).

Morning,
I will perheps repeat myself:

1. I'm for leaving BP stuff in (I know someone may disagree now),
2. You grant me a _temp_ "gloper" status,
3. Someone sends me an example procedure "how to correct" (or similar),
4. I provide some first fixes, some/one of you dudes checks the integrity,
5. I continue day by day, still being verified from T to T (in order to avoid any accidental mistakes), you agree (AND avoid future saying "we propose to delete it, now not only BP did a mess but SIM did too").
6. ...and after that we forget the case.

...or just you decide to wipe everything out and we forget it and never hear sth unpleasant about who, when, and etc...
This is the place to talk, not to argue...

Ouf... have a nice day =)!

Might make sense to add the Win32 ports of the Doomsday demos to the original demo page as a "download"/"port" link and not as a separate prod...
