and..justice for all!

category: offtopic [glöplog]
While it's an interesting topic and a genuine issue, I don't think a topic about gender inequality in the VG industry will lead to anything interesting on Pouet. A few reasons:

- That topic is not demoscene related
- There is probably barely 1% of female users on Pouet
- The VG industry has often failed to make women feel welcome. It's getting better but we're not there yet unfortunately and the problem is not specific to this industry anyway.

You seem to have a knack for opening discussions and removing their foundation?

Lets talk about why the sun is a disk, don't question my claim, good reasons only, thanks!

@keops: that's what I've been saying the whole time, i.e. this is a broader issue and most definitely not limited to just the VG industry.

Just these few hours of breaking a lance for the female perspective was eye-opening.

Hold on a second, LJ. how have I removed the foundation of this discussion ?

^ok, I take the lack of an explanation as a sign that these are just unsubstantiated accusations that try to derail the topic at hand.

here are some further thoughts:

  • we assign people to a project
  • we lack proper management skills
  • we hope (expect) that these people will figure out the details on their own
  • this puts "unbilled" stress on all involved
  • some cope, some don't

My suspicion is that this is common practice and that men are more likely to walk that extra mile while woman are more likely to just stick to the plan.

This is just a hunch but if any of that is true, we need better management (and this affects _all_ of us).

Add to that a "macho" ("I'm impeccable") attitude and you got a recipe for disaster.

But hey, just a hunch.

You should start reflecting a bit more before posting here.. just a hunch.

What have I done wrong in your opinion ?

So you apparently put yourself in someone else's shoes for the first time in your life and had an epiphany that you need to run and post about.
Do you want a fucking medal now? Yes there's systematic equality. Yes, we should do something about it.
No women are not responsible for it, because "they don't walk the extra mile". Like wtf?
I can see one macho here, and this is the persom that started the thread.

I agree with v3nom for once that we should do something about systematic equality!
bsp: Having contributed to zero demos in ten years, for example. :-)

*systemic inequality

hahaha, bifat. I agree in this case. Fuckings to lamers, machos and fascists - greetings to elites (of whatever gender)

hah, ouch and on point. I expected this.
there are many examples that disprove that thesis.

by "just a hunch" I really meant that I was not sure of this to begin with (and still am not).

but is it really all wrong ?

there is a divide and just saying "the world is not fair" is not an acceptable answer.

what do you think is the root cause for this ?

What about you read a bit more and make your mind about it. Or speak to some experts on the matter, instead of posting about it on a demoscene forum. Or in other words: Make a fucking demo about it.

then let's end this on a high note (because I agree that this just isn't the right audience)

@bifat: not true, I've released many (non-commercial) "demos" and prods. I simply have not labeled them "demoscene".

on a side note: I read that other epic thread on EAB where you posted that TGCLSO "word frequency" 68k assembly implementation. nice! and we sure don't have to extend this to 50+ pages (others will, somewhere else)

It wasn't me who made the thread epic, I only poured in a little gasoline from time to time :-)

I know, but it was a (or _the_) highlight :-)

By the way, I have released my entry on Aminet a few days later.

"FIST TIME IN THE WEST" haha but coolio. I've yet to release my lifetime (SW / open source) work but it's going to be epic (last count puts it on a level with Blender, 1.5mio+ lines of code). Tally me banana ! And this will (hopefully) affect the "demoscene" (too).

Actually I'm gonna add more thing: there is such a thing as taking the right side of an issue, and ruining it.
