ask plek, he can write endless equations involving Amiga ;)

Amiga 3000 doesn't have AGA chipset.

the thing is, that in pouet.net and demoscene.tv all the amiga demos are listed as "ECS" and as far as i know, there are NO specific demos for amiga 600/500+/3000 :P and i think you ppl should write OCS instead :P

i think so too and have reported that to analogue some years ago. he didn't like to change it back then because it would fit the database-design so nicely if one day there would be an ECS demo.

since there isn't, i still think it would be best to just relabel all "ECS" demos to "OCS" which is what they really are.

note that some A500 included an ECS blitter (can switch PAL/NTSC and can do bigger blits) but not the ECS denisse (which is responsible for 1280px resolution on a500+, a600 and a3000)

It isn't an Amiga (according to several Amiga users) but the CDTV has (iirc) an ECS.

Since ECS can stand as a superset of ECS and OCS I don't have problems with the naming.
most OCS demos do _not_ run properly on ECS machines, unless there is a special fix and/or an kickrom switch in the ECS machine (and the kickrom is not always the solution either :P)

I'd opt for the following: AMIGA. And then sort it out amongst yourselves, you freaks. Most people don't really care what hardware you use or don't use, there's an infofile with the distribution to provide you with the details about a certain production.

You're obviously not getting the point; having categories for platforms (which is related to hardware or a significant combination of hardware and operating system) is a nice granularity; having categories for every stupid chipset creates administrative chaos. If that's the purpose, I'd propose having categories for all the different PC hardware accelerator classes too. How useful, how nice.. not.

i opt for 'AMIGAAA KURWAAAAA' when PPC in involved tho
niels: you're out of clue :)

yeah niels, being thorough sucks. the windows/ms-dos/ms-dos+gus categories should also all be stashed under "pc". hang on, while we're at it, we might just as well ditch the numerous console categories and have them all under "console" instead.

There is no such thing is a Console Persecution Complex, so what would be the point?

You really didn't read what I said, did you? If you did, you would not come up with the comparisons. If you want this kind of detail for Amiga's, let's do it for all platforms. Unless we just stick to the evolutionary distribution as we have it now, which is fine with me too. I'm just trying to start a fight here ;-)

As we say in Dutch: "Gelijke monniken, gelijke kappen".

And I really can't do that after I signed a peace-treaty with Dip earlier this year ;)

indeed, rename ECS to OCS and the Amiga fans can sleep again :P

there are many demos on amiga ocs, that really need ocs original chipset with 512k chipmem or with 512kb Chip and 512kb Slow. The Amiga 500+ ECS Kick 2.0 crashes often old demos.

A Short overview :

Amiga 500 = OCS ( later ECS ?!? )
Amiga 1000 = OCS
Amiga 500+ = ECS
Amiga 2000 = OCS
Amiga 3000 = ECS
Amiga 600 = ECS
Amiga 1200 = AGA
Amiga 4000 = AGA
Amiga CDTV = OCS
Amiga CD32 = AGA with Akiko Extension

Simple to say :

Most old Demos on Amiga 500 running very well with 512kb Chip and Kick 1.2 or 1.3 and most Demos running also well if you got the good ol 512kb slow mem extension...

But if you own the Amiga 500+ ( with Kick 2.0 and ECS for sure =))) then you got often Probs with A500 Demos.

simple grab your WinUAE Emulator, with the right Roms, you can have all the Amigas from 1.0 till 3.9 =)))
I think this is a great moment to send fuckings to all amiga users who flamed us pc people back in the dos days while claming that the pc was a configuration nightmare :-)

I think this is a great moment to point out that it WAS a fucking nightmare, still IS a fucking nightmare, and this will be pointed out yet again whenever anyone asks how to get one of the pc demos that uses some odd vga mode running under dosbox.

And besides, nothing can ever top the major reason I was told that PC beat Amiga, back in the early days.

Real computers DON'T HAVE SOUND OR COLOR GRAPHICS.

Every time I read some PC person claiming superiority over something else, I remember that quote, and the group of people agreeing with it... and my hysterical laughter of the time comes rushing back.
i think i'll just politely pretend to ignore this thread and carry on living a healthy life..
