I use VC6 too, other compilers are too complicated for my poor coding skills ^_^;

btw, it's enough for me to render lovely shinnin' glenz vectors =D

defbase: the latest dx sdk versions also claim not to be compatible with vc6. i forget the exact reason why. =)

rubicante/whoever, if you use VC6 and want the PSDK, Feb 2003 is latest compatible one.

smash, yeah that's true, everything after December 2004 won't work on VC6.. i got bored of this hilarious joke microsoft are playing and stopped updating my sdk...

defbase: all you need is to add BASETSD.H and it works again... (easy way: install dx8sdk and dx9 on top of it.)

god I love Eclipse. It means that when vi fuckheads tell me emacs is bloated, I just point, and they go 'ok well yeah but hey shut... hey.. no stop using Eclipse! it's bigger than Emacs by like ... 8 million times!' and then they go yell at Eclipse people and let me get work done.
god I also love Eclipse. best practical joke in decades!

I suggest emacs + scons + gcc.

I was using VC 2005 express, and now I'm using VS 2005 Pro since I have a student's license... I've really never tried something else on windows.
They're both good. Even if express is not free anymore, I've downloaded the iso some time ago...

As stated by Defbase, VC6 + VA X + Window Tabs + SP5 + Processor pack, is kinda nice.
Also KDevelop is anyway nice.

ph33r my crax0ring skills, i have made the impossible possible!
just delete dunnet.el and dunnet.elc from youremacsdir/lisp/play/ to see a version of emacs without a text adventure feature!

i still use vc6, dont really suffer many crashes when doing console development using gcc as compiler. But when creating tools and using dx yes i do get some crashes.. I tried 2005 but couldnt see any advantage at the moment, mainly because im not primarily coding for windows i guess. If its for xcompiling/linking to another platform i would suggest vc6 with VA and WndTabs installed.
