HELP! save the altparty!

category: general [glöplog]

there's been a lot of discussion going on the altparty mailinglist and irc-channel about the future of altparty, which is now at stake. some organisers feel that there is no intrest and thus no need for another party, that the whole thing should be just put to the rest.
i'd like to hear what really is peoples intrest toward altparty now? should it all just end?

and please, try not to pouetize this thread too soon.

from what I ws told at solskogen about the consept of alt party I think it is pretty cool to have such a thing. however i do hardly attend at parties outside norway so I will prolly not go there either.

Hope the organizers desides to go for it. Alt. consepts are allways welcome!

alt.party does rule. Organizing parties and whatnot is hard work. I'd not like to see it die, myself.
sounds really bad, i wish i could help. maybe the organizing should be moved to someone who might have interest...?

altparty always belonged to the event i was looking forward release-wise through the years. weird compos, weird entries, alternative and experimental spirit... if altparty dies, this will be a major loss for the scene! we need a healthy dose of fresh ideas and really experimental things between all those assemblies, gatherings, breakpoints and even evokes.

i never have been at altparty, which i regret very much, but if there will be another one in 2007, i'll do my best to attend if study and work don't go in between.

and for the practical part, perhaps the organizers should recruit some fresh blood who would carry on the spirit and invest some time and energy into it? it's quite normal that at long-lasting demoparties, the "generations" change slowly. at the evoke orga team, there are perhaps only 1/4 who have been involved in evoke 1997.

And when is this Alt party?
Why is it different to other parties?

The site I saw, as pretty dead... ;-/

I had a good time at Alt'05. That is all.

I liked the open-minded philosophy of altparties. The scene definitely needed some shaking in 1998 when the first altparty was held. However, in the last years, the concept had started to feel more and more artificial (including the tailoring of new and different compos every time etc). I think this eventually bored the audience who just wanted a good demoparty with some attitude.

However, it'd be a pity to lose the organizing potential of those who still have the energy and willingness to organize parties. So, if altparty is going to die, there'll be a definite need to replace it with something else (something called neuparty, perhaps)? And yes, finding some new blood to participate in the organizing would be great.
I've always had fun at AltParties and '03 was also one the best parties I've ever been at.

I really hate Gloria as a partyplace. Worst place ever, which is why I skipped it last time. Other than that AltParty is a great concept and if they'd be organised somewhere else, they'd be even better and I'd visit again.

I've had to skip the last two altparties ('04 & '05) because of reasons which had nothing to do with the parties themselves but still tbh i'm not sure if i even had wanted to go there. The themes were stupid, compos were mostly uninteresting (due to low quality entries) and the party place sucked. The last time i was there there wasn't much else to do but to go to a bar and when you were there you didn't really feel like going back to the party place, especially not to sleep there.

I agree with viznut. Altparty has always been the best finnish demoparty IMO. Hopefully somebody will take over the organizing responsibilities. I'm quite sure people would attend, if the recipe of "alternative" entertainment is kept intact. I've always personally liked the music acts during the parties, they have been most excellent!

was planning visiting it for couple years now, never had the timeschedule chance to do it. :/ would suck if it would just disapear. typical demoparty compos and platforms get boring. platform diversity and cute new compo ideas is fun to have.

kosmoplovci thinks altparty is one of the most important scene events that happens in recent history and see it as one of the most important parties, regardless of it's faults... we are always planning to release demos on 'major' parties where our productions would most likely be disqualified - just to be able to qualify in 'disqualified demo compo' on next altparty ;)

also, altparty is one of the few parties in existance where kosmoplovci would truly like to appear and spend some time with friends, however our physical attendance to parties outside serbia is still in our dreams for bunch of reasons, of which two most important would be:
1. fascists strategy of EU towards serbian citizens (read: VISA regime...)
2. serious lack of money even for life, not to talk about complexities of going abroad...

as you see, both reasons have nothing to do with the altparty itself and/or similar parties, as they are, in my humble opinion, last refugee for real sceners searching for inovation and place to express themselves freely. kosmoplovci prefer to support this kind of parties where free thought is not censored...
