imigrant workers to uk

category: general [glöplog]
Sorry this is off topic
this is a young worldwide forum so this is a good place to post this particularly because of the scenes attitude regarding employment

Please spread this message to people from european countries coming to the uk
TeleMate.tv's watchflog channel are battling to try to increase the minimum wages here in the UK...the cost of living here is atleast around £250 per week and the minimum wage is only less than £5 or 6 per hour ....people are taxed on anything over £80 per week and many many people here are getting into serious dept/poverty/drugs etc etc because of it
the government have no idea about the realities of normal living and are stuck up in their ivory towers...
(you and i situation)
business owners are generally the same paying themselves high profits without regard for their staff (excuses/passing the buck etc)

read the watchflog page here to see what telemate are doing to try to solve this problem
http://www.telemate.fsnet.co.uk/watchflog.htm

Businesses response to our efforts is to take on and exploit imigrants from Poland and alike who are unaware of the situation until its too late
paying them the low wages instead of paying more!!!

we need Polish and other imigrant countries coming here to stand and fight with us to make a better life for the lower classes

please support us and mention our watchflog channel if u get into any bother or need a fist to fight with

many thanks sorry to have bothered pouet with this off topic but very on topic!!

..
cheers

what? .. well I guess politcs are about as far flung from Pouet as you can go...

Anyway, imigration is a huge problem in the UK.. Although I would suggest visiting some news site or related site to get more factual information.

darkus: immigration is only a problem if the legal minimum wage is kept so low
if the minimum wage were to be increased to a more reasonable real amount then 'they' wont be able to use their argument , that is, 'well if u wont work for a low wage this guy from poland will'

the guy from poland 'thinks' he's earning alot until the bills come in and then he will realise and be replaced when he mones along with all of us who are moaning

all the unemployed people on really low benefits ...most of them have tried working but one just cant pay the bills the wages are so low for 'most' people

so i dont think immigration is a problem if they increase the minimum wage to a realistic amount
ie £250 per week minimum AFTER TAX!

BBC news are being led astray and using immigrants against us to make it look like we dont want to work but they will

this BBC thing is not true, thats why i posted so we know the truth

Here's a thought. If immigrants coming to this country are in as much trouble as you say they are (and, frankly, your posts are bullshit), here's the solution - don't immigrate.

Higher minimum wage means higher costs for business. So simply increasing the minimum way either increases unemployment (employers can't afford increased salary and employers National Insurance payments), or increased costs to the consumer (so your wage increase is wiped out again).

People smarter than you deal with this. And, omg, I don't believe I just wasted time replying to this.

They're called "Visitors" and it's called "Sundown."
Pouet BBS is 100% off topic, i believe. Everything on topic ends up in the prod comments. :) And, well, in the thread 1024.

Seel, i don't know the UK, but i cannot quite believe there is no social help of sorts there. Currently a person needs in europe approx. 350 EUR per month for food, daily reqiered stuff, and clothes. Add a modest accomodation (rent varies very much), and this should stay tax-free. 80 pounds per week is like 500 EUR per month, perhaps a little bit too low, but not much. If anyone earns less, he should be elegible to the social help, if he is UK citizen.

You bet i know life isn't too nice with such little money, but you should not complain because almost everywhere besides those chosen few countries like the one you live in people are very literally starving. And if you could choose, would you let people rather starve right around you, or rather somewhere else? Yes, it is very much interconnected, and if you don't understand that, you'd better c\~/.

You cannot change much in britain alone, you have to fix the whole world. Which, well, would in fact lead to new problems.

Seel, you're possibly right and wrong at the same time. Yes, the minimum wage is very low, and scraping the bare survival minimum, so you're right to get upset about that. But at the same time, I'm sure there is a hardcore of people that wouldn't take ANY job, no matter how nicely it is paid, so the harder working immigrants will step in regardless.

There are many reasons for these hardcore unfortunates, like the benefits dependency culture, demotivation from previous redundancies, a peer-group culture which takes pride in lack of education, and more, widen the scope of this discussion beyond the rather limited view taken by the Watchflog site.

What's up with mainland europeans becoming all xenophobic again?

Makes me almost want to flee.

Incidentally eye^pac is right, we do have social welfare in the UK. And thanks to that abomination of law called the European Human Rights Act, immigrants can come to this country then claim social benefits.

I wonder who pays for those benefits? Oh that's right, the people who are UK citizens who have to pay insane amounts of tax. Tell me again why I should care if an immigrant worker thinks the minimum wage is too low? Mass immigration is a huge threat to the UK's infrastructure and way of life.

We should sort out the problems and help our own citizens before allowing immigrants to come here and take anything. Immigrants who come here and give by having real skills (note, flipping burgers and picking mushrooms are not skills) and putting back into the economy are welcome. Everyone else can simply jump off the ferry anywhere between Calais and Dover.

Well, see, not all of them actually choose where they end up. Refugees for example. Or maybe we should only allow skilled refugees? Oh but actually some of them are skilled.

But strangely, their diplomas seem not to be always recognized in the country they end up in. And they end up doing menial or tedious tasks (that other people don't want to do, because they'd be unable to sustain their cell phone usage) and working towards making it possible for their children to actually live half-normally.

EU immigrants take social welfare? Couldn't EU regulate it so that those imigrants get welfare from their countries of origin?

Knos, refugees are a totally different question. A country takes them as a sort of political statement, not because it needs them for anything particular. We know that this may not be quite so in practice, but i don't think that applying further selection critera would be allowed.
added on the 2006-09-08 23:02:43 by eye eye
Yep, refugee implies someone who legitimately has no choice but to run from their country and seek refuge (ooh, look, that's where the word comes from) elsewhere. I wasn't talking about that.

Immigrants have a choice. They choose to leave their country and enter another one. If they choose wrongly and end up in a country that in their opinion has a poor minimum wage and low social benefits, that's their problem. Bitching about it is like complaining about the last employer you had - you chose to quit your existing job and work for the new employer, if you don't like it then quit again. If you can't quit and still don't like it, shut up. There's nothing stopping any immigrant from returning to their home country, especially within the EU (freedom of travel).

eye^Pac, as far as I know, anyone resident in the UK (ie: a legal immigrant or legal asylum seeker) is entitled to social welfare benefits paid for by UK taxpayers, which is why expansion of the EU is bad for us. I don't believe there's any way to make the country of origin pay. Although interestingly if you're a UK citizen and make your tax contributions while you work, if you emigrate when you retire you can still claim a state pension even while living in another country.

In 2 sentences:

If you don't like it, go home and shut up. If you don't want to go home then it must be better here than wherever you're from, so get on with it and shut up.

How about a maximum wage?
Seel: How would you like to achieve an increase of the minimum wage? Do you want the government to make a law?

In theory, the minimum wage ought to raise "automatically" because of the logics of market-economy: If people think the wages for some particular jobs are too low, they won't take these jobs; and since the employers thus have a lack of employees, they'll increase the wages.

If you think that immigrants spoil this mechanism because they accept low-paid jobs - so what? You take other jobs. As simple as that!

defbase, you vote for the fascist, or rightwing nationalist party dont you?

If everyone followed your logic, our world would be a pretty shitty place to be (even more). Change dont come about because people are nice, ESPECIALLY NOT people in power. They come about because the guys who pay for the cirkus revolt. It doesnt fucking matter where youre from, if someone is taking advantage of you, rebel.

Each individual must make known that they will not put up with abuse, and will fight it fiercely.

@thom, for sure. And how about stopping this phoney ursury based banking system. A lot of our problems will be solved, right there, just like that! *snaps fingers*. The reason it isnt, is because someone that isnt you me or anyone that we know, is making so much money on this system that its not even funny, and it gives them control of most of the world resources. A control never questioned.

If we have any single enemy that should be routed out, its the banksters. When you have enough resource, you OWN oppinion, politicians, basically anything you want to own. Now, if you are able to make money out of the air, as is the large banks, are you going to sit on your hands and do nothing with such a great power...not bloody likely!

So they ruin whole countrys (argentina anyone?) and make sure that the people cannot get on their feet again, without making deals with the devil enslaving them forever in a spiral of dept.

But hey, if you dont like it, just move to another country run be the same principles, thatll get you real far. OMG defbase is a brick!!!

Yeah, I tell you what, we're really being bled dry by those 680 EU immigrants claiming benefit.

Yes, that's 680, as in, somewhat less than the number of people you can fit into a sports hall in Bingen, for example.
