Ojuice dead?

But seriously, WTF. "Proprietary technology". Hell, if there is a legal organisation behind it, go rent a freaking dedicated Windows server for 69 Euros / month in some datacenter, learn how to pay your domain registrars bill (yeah, expired domains was one of the 34343448787 reasons for ojuice/nectarine outages during the last 2 years). It's not THAT hard.

Who said it's not a pending process?
And you wrote it: 69 Euros / month, which is highly over the actual Nectarine cost, which needs us to reorganize the donnation processe and stuff...
Nectarine and Ojuice are written in a ASP derived language I know under the name "Poliris parser" which is an old version of the technology used in the company Chandra works in and Yes used to. All servers are hosted at Poliris and they let Necta & Ojuice use their bandwidth for a quite cheap fee actually. but this posed us heavy problems during years as much as needing a java applet to manage simple file uploads, admins not having access to the stuff because of some security policy in the company, Server being down for several days when Chandra is on holidays, etc...

The content of you topic I criticized is not about laughing at the true non sense like "constantly getting improved" but only the "Letting scene community platforms like ojuice and nectarine die this way just sucks." because they are not dead yet and people do what they can in the situations they face... and "personnal problems my ass" which I believe is wrong, as flat on fire with almost all stuff inside being burnt is what I call a serious personal problem which can keep you away from futile passions for months, especially when mixed with more personnal problems...

I just dislike people criticizing and quite humiliating others without a real reason and especially without knowing what it's all about.

doh_drd: People are just craving their daily fix of nectarine!

When people miss something very badly, then tend to think irrational thoughts and go berserk.

Briiiiing back, briiiiiiiing back, oh bring back my Ojuice to me, to ME!
I guess a lot of people don't care about Ojuice anymore. However, I'm pretty sure way more people miss Nectarine. And so do I :)

Hopefully Yes will manage to sort all this out, including the personal problems he had to face those last months.

Actually forgot that Ojuice existed at all... just used it occasionaly to check some sceners ID.

But yes, Nectarine is worth some fight to get it up and running.

I think if it would have been so easy, it would have been done.
Clearly: Scene.org or such are the top notch things and we can feel really lucky to have such horsepower (both peoples and IT) for our demoscene community.

The rest is some brave peoples having some completed projects for the demoscene & with their possibilities (THANK YOU for OJuice and Nectarine). We shouldn't be surprised they couldn't sustain for ages especially when they had to face IT and dev problems.

So, let's think as a community. What can be done to help OJuice/Nectarine ?

Yes who was abroad in North Africa for work for few weeks had no news from Chandra since when he left. He told me he'd let me aware of what he could get from Chandra when he'd call him. I've no more news actually so I don't really know what could be done. May Yes or someone else or me write more about it in the following days.

I mean "I don't have more news"...

I think at some point in time, projects are allowed to die off, and leave room for the new guard. New websites, new projects taking the task in a different way than before.

And especially:

If the main people behind a project don't feel like supporting it anymore, it's better to stop supporting it than to keep doing it out of a sense of duty, yet hating every minute spent.

then make the ojuice db available in some way, it would avoid a lot of work.

What kind of mainboard do you actually need? Perhaps i can look around here... What raid controller, configuration, etc. Like, building a computer to get ojuice up and running again schould not be too hard, and i'd help if i can.

I must be blind or stupid or something... i don't know anything about your propritary system, but isn't there any way to write a plug-in to it to dump the data as plain old text?

That voodoo about "many things you don't know" and stuff is not relevant as long as the ojuice database is not running at all.

I don't believe you anything with legal stuff either. You can always take a new maintainer into your organization, so that formally the data need not move out. Snobs!

And, yes, with legal questions, who's going to sue you? A competitor? A user who thinks his data is being "misused"? Oh C'mon!

Hi,

yes I'm new here on pouet, but the music nectarine streamed is the music of my life. I get my first Amiga on my 8th birthday.

So, I would everything do what I could give.

This is my offer: I'll sign a contract which takes me to handle user data with care. 69euros/month? Well, let me kill my 2 WoW Accounts and I pay this shit.

I'll do it for free and that. So, this is an offer. Is there anything that is in the way, let's talk about it.

Keep dreaming.
Yes wants to keep the baby.

Salacryl:
User data trouble is for Ojuice matter. Nectarine is an Ojuice extension and can keep the db whatever would happen.
about your money offer, wow! that sounds great. Too great maybe? could you contact me by mail @ doh at dreamdealers.org ?

If Nectarine would split from Ojuice, we'd need some PHP mast0rz to recode the whole stuff. Contact us too if you'd like to help.
But nothing is decided yet,so don't heat up! ;)

hm. I say give your 69e/month to Scene.org. Or give half to scene.org and give half to another worthy cause (bitfellas, untergrund...)

I'd go for Nectarine without Ojuice... Never used OJuice much...
I even donated for Ojuice and thought that Yes was able to run the thing with donations quite ok...
added on the 2006-09-28 17:38:55 by raer raer
Sorry, meant I donated for Nectarine...
Scene.org is not everything. Nectarine is a really nice streaming radio a lot of people listen to IMHO.
added on the 2006-09-28 17:40:55 by raer raer
If scene.org offers us the bandwidth for the streams and nectarine it would be cool :) Traffic consumption is about 35O GB / month afair.
