1chip MSX

category: general [glöplog]

I don't have much info, but there's a company called D4, which is going to release a FPGA msx on a chip.

The hardware looks sort of cute here: http://www.msx.d4e.co.jp/ although I have no clue what the site's saying :)

Looks like those fancy c64 fpga makers, it features a SD slot to serve as mass storage. And USB ports.

And it has fancy enough audio capabilities apparently, leading D4 to have organized a little chiptune show at this year's TGS. http://www.gamesetwatch.com/2006/09/gamesetpics_tgs_chiptune_conce.php (courtesy of our dear very own h0l/mono211)

(As far as I knew audio on MSX was not completely standardized, with different version/type of hardware)

It says MSX3. What was the last version of MSX?
And it has 32MB of ram. Not that bad.

From wikipedia:
Code:In 2001, Kazuhiko Nishi initiated an 'MSX Revival' around an official MSX emulator called 'MSX PLAYer'. This is the only official MSX emulator. All MSX copyrights are maintained by the MSX Association. In 2004, the Dutch company Bazix announced they had become the representatives of MSX Association in Europe. Apart from being the English contact for any questions regarding the MSX trademarks and copyrights (licensing) they will also introduce WOOMB.net, a website where MSX games will be sold. In Japan game sales have already begun, through the company D4 Enterprise with their Project EGG. The same company announced (in August 2006) the launch of a new MSX2 compatible system called the "one chip-MSX", a system based on an FPGA. Recently, Nintendo of Japan posted on its Virtual Console webpage that MSX games will be available for Wii's Virtual Console.

Sorry for heptaposting but that's the official European distributer. If it's under €150 I'll buy one. I don't believe it is :(
