When a pouët demo contest?

category: general [glöplog]
It would be not difficult to do it using the bbs and the prod submission system... I know, releasing to parties is much better, but maybe it would be fun, don't you think?

Oh, btw, it's not supposed to be for 'decent' prods. It's supposed to be for having competitions. If we have 5 prods (code/graphics/music) each month I'll more than happy, I don't care about the quality at this point, atleast we will have a bit more of productivity.

But, hey, thanks ps!

quantity instead of quality? what a brilliant setting for creating art.

well, give me a better solution if your country isn't really producing that much latelly.

Quality over quantity!

Right now, I prefer to have 2 bad prods (that may inspire other to do 1 good prod) than 0 good prods (that won't inspire anybody).

So, Quantity over quality!

trace: seriously. think over it. what's up with you these days?

What's up with me?

Let me think, after being years doing real crap demos, I decided it was time to stop doing that crap that wasn't helping anyone and spending more time on the demos. So from that side, now I doing much more worked demos than ever.

In the other side, along sole, sml, and others we're trying to bring back escena.org, which has been lost for months, and also trying to recover a bit the spanish demoscene, cos latelly we lack a bit of good prods and new people. So we're doing our best to make escena.org improve it, having also sml doing demoshows around.

That's what's up with me these days. Why? Should I stop doing all that? What's up with you anyway?

Keops, you have any better solution as well? I'm all ears.

But hey, guys, don't worry about it, I don't want you to think in other things than pouet.net admin/code, it really needs some love there (such a long to-do list).

In other words, you have enough problems already.

trace, can you post the url please? Does it is in English or Spanish? Does it is only for Spanish people? I'm not Spanish, I'm gipsy, but I would collaborate anyway

texel: We hope to have it up and running for the day after tomorrow (wednesday), would be from 15th to 15th, each month. And well, I guess anyone can release, atleast anyone that undestands spanish.

Great! I think first month will be fine in spanish and then see if it is worth a translation.

trace: i was thinking about a similar concept at times, and i always concluded that people would be too busy to do serious stuff. and if they're doing crap stuff then they arent working on the serious stuff for the parties. so therefor i concluded that i wouldnt be worth the hassle. there are already tmdc and .au xmas compo next month, and after that there are a couple more parties in february, and after that easter madness, and after that... there is always something to code for. just not enough time to finish properly, or no decent graphicians to whore for work which makes the whole process demotivating..

a possibly more interesting project could be to have some sort of scenetalent market where coders with routines ready looking for graphicians could hook up with members of another crew and work on a serious project. but then again irc already exists.

Do you remember those #pixel 30min compo? It's basicly the same. The idea came up some days ago at #demoscene @ irc-hispano.

The idea was, now that there was starting to be a bit of people on the channel again, to do some compo. We said about 30min ones, then 1hour, then 1day, But we ended up saying that the best would be doing it monthly and even giving a framework so anyone could try coding an effect (even me!).

So, as I know that having to handle that is really hard (if you do it based on irc), I had the idea of creating a section on escena.org to make all this more automaticly, so anyone could just upload his prod. And it requires only 1 person to organise a little bit, do some clicks around and check that everything goes alright. Maybe 15min a day of work.

Also the point is having on escena.org the results with the link, so a new user to the site will click on the compos section and see which graphics won and stuff like that, make it very simple and transparent for a new user in the site to show what the hell are we talking about, and opening him/her the doors to do something too. Probably there will be a lot of crappy ones, but hey, that's a start. And also, in Spain we don't have too many parties and apart from Breakpoint, we don't go to any other outside Spain, so we lack competitions.

Also, a good idea was that for the time of voting/results. If you released the sources of your prod, then you will have x2 points more. And also, if your graphic was pixellated you will have x2 points, and the same with tracked music.
