gloom : thats 9 fingers amiga demo? do I get a bonus point? hehe. I've not watched that on amiga for YEARS. c64 owns though SORRY. I asked to use a logo from a demo my friend painted and he agreed, for a project I am currently doing music wise.

Havoc, I came back due to being a muso now, BUT grg is part of the demo scene I was involved with. I don't know him, he wrote music for a friends game though.

if it wasn't for the c64 demo scene, I'd not be involved in music.

IF I was the first to find the sidstation footage, well I think if it helps, thats all that matters.

If it wasn't for the demo scene I'd not have made some good friendships that have lasted MANY years. For me thats what the whole thing IS/WAS about.

I'm sure more of you can relate to that.

p.s. I'm not exactly tall, but I'm not a troll ;-)
If only Chris' article contained more pictures than words -even the YouTube people would be able to parse this.

Great article. Pretty much nailed reality down as a canvas for people to gaze at.

again- i was just trying to point out the discrepancy between the fact and the quote. try waving at yourself... seriously.... it's not even slightly silly, is it?

as for being a troll or not... nothing surprises me anymore after >10 years of internet... but i wouldn't inmediatly guess so based on your comments. however, choosing to remain anonymous among friends does place you in the same credibility bracket as trolls, fakeusers, et al.

havoc if you feel that way my friend you are entitled to, I respect that. Last thing I worked on c64 demo wise was in 1993. I feel not to use my scene name, simply because I haven't coded anything in such a long time. (and there are far better coders out there)

I felt strongly enough to come back, hopefully to help none demo people understand some concepts. eg. the sid is programmed by hand, isn't a synth patch and also help, If i wasn't bothered, I'd not have looked through for the video clips etc (check earlier posts).
peace to the $d012 crew =) (and the $d021 etc.hehe)
Call hovac friend when you come to Outline. Stop derailing in the meantime.

ZING.

I love people pretending the atari is isolated from reality. They make life less boring :\

Mad props to Chris for putting together a very comprehensive and detailed article. Having this whole issue "dissected" in this way rises my confidence of a successful outcome for Tempest.

It's great to also see many individuals from the scene go to huge personal lengths to support the cause (w00t Gloomie boy =)). When I first heard of this, I also felt the same way and went to lengths to dig thru all the archives to get Janne a very formal statement of participation at ASM (down to the exact minute of submission of the entry to our competition management system =)).

On a sidenote, this is probably among the very best discussion threads in Pouet in years =).

Doom: Gwahaha, you almost fooled me for a while there! But please dont call me a "nazi" or "facicst" again, ok? About what you write last; you are absolutley right in every aspect. The reason for me to take the aspect of you being a musician come from my experience from other places on the net. Its easyer to explain these things to a musician. I have had far to many "conversation" with youtubelamnerz dont know shit about music, theoretecly. Many "claims" that a song IS the lyrics, the other is "just the background". Witch lead them to the conclution that Nelly realy wrote this song, coz Tempest didnt have any lyrics in the original. Gwee! Sometiimes its not just worth it! :-) Rock on and peace!

Soundslam seems to have re-published their news-bit (it turned up a second time on Google News and they've changed the beginning of the article):

[quot]Timbaland is one of the most well-respected producers in the hip-hop and pop music world... except for the people of Finland.[/quote]

I can't stop giggling over that tidbit there. :)

oh i'm spreading this here, too.

and the main reason that i really wish Tempest recieve some money for what he did and may be then he will continue with doing that.

o the latest internet controversy is about how Timbaland is a beat biter and perhaps even a dope style taker. Stemming from a Digg post, the story goes that Timbo jacked a loop wholesale from a “demoscene” song put together six years earlier. (Wikipedia has a detailed description of the demoscene for those who are interested. But in short it’s computer music and animation made on old computers by nerds and for nerds. And I mean nerd in the least derogatory sense possible, but I don’t think there’s more appropriate word for the type of person who makes internet only music. It’s sort of like internet only music journalism.)

I know I fall into the role of Captain-Save-a-Timbo pretty often and I’d like to initially go on record by saying that the Nelly Fertado track in question is pretty uninspired no matter how you cut it. But it’s also not really deserving of all this outrage.

What we have here is a case of 21st Century beat digging. These types of things happen all the time, it’s just that the “victim” doesn’t have the luxury of having a nerd army with a vague understanding of copyright law on their side. If he looped up an obscure finnish LP that sold a hundred copies no one would be the wiser and the three record collectors who did know what was up would give the dude respect for getting his fingers dirty. The original artist would probably not get paid, not necessarily out of malice or neglect but merely because tracking down a Finnish recording artist and his publishers is not the easiest task. I’d imagine it’s even more difficult to do this with a Finnish recording artist who makes music on Commodore computers and puts it on the internet.

I understand a lot of this has to do with the collective pride of a bunch of geeks and their ongoing one sided war with mainstream media. I do agree that the original artist deserves some sort of remuneration, and I would be surprised if after all the publicity he’s getting he did not recieve any. But if you are going to attack Timbaland’s credibility for this, you might as well throw out 90% of pre-1997 hip hop that lazily looped up a sample. Or every blues and rock musician who jacked a riff, for that matter.

Maybe I should make a “Marley Marl Ripped Off a Track From My Buddy” digg post.

and he is wrong, even pre-1997 hiphop wich sold 3.7 million records cleared all samples.... always
