scene music stolen

category: music [glöplog]
or he just tries to convince people that in fact "sampling" is a favor towards the victim and hence tempest should be thankful.

Nice headline on the cover of that Rumba:

Timbaland
Varastaminen on taidetta (in English: "Stealing is Art")

oh so now its sampling again... maybe i should then sample myself some thousands of albums from tah intarweb..

dafred: hehe. think it should read "constructive sampling is an art".

its funny what some mags/media will do to get an interview/feature with someone .. even if it does include the person being interviewed , talking utter s***

am i the only one who finds the posts elsewhere scary / alarming how stupid certain people are? hehe

just saw an advert on tv for nelly's loose album, on uk channel 4

and no.. acid jazzed.. errm i mean errmm.. doing it wasn't playin in the background..
http://psid64.sourceforge.net/screen.php

Dalezy: I noticed it a few weeks ago - was going to mention it, but thought it probably was old news.

Now I wonder.
just curious, this goes out to anyone posting on the youtube thing, am i the only one getting mails from a certain poster?

example.. what does timbo use to make tunes?

sid station and hsvc ;-)

ironic for me though is... (being an old git)

Fairlight CMI
http://www.obsolete.com/120_years/machines/fairlight/

and someone samples from the namesake.
And the next unwelcome guest for our case files (oh joy...)

A new independent animated movie, We Are The Strange. Looks damn cool (and scenish) actually.

Feedback from the Sundance film festival
Some people generally raving about the music in the trailer

The music is a remix of "30 Minut" by t.A.t.U., converted to AY by Yerzmyey and mixed by Carl/Micromusic. (Yes, it was an uncleared cover to begin with. Hello, legal murkiness.) Here's what Yerzmyey had to say:
Quote:
I didn't give any persmission to use AY-RIDERS' song in his FUCKING MOVIE.
And I'm sure I'm correct in this subject.

Interestingly, the trailer appears to say (it's a bit hard to make out:) "Music by Noise Inc and the world's greatest chip musicians", and flashes up a few names stupidly quickly. Can anyone identify them? Has anyone here been contacted by the filmmaker? All this, and more, in the next exciting edition of 'scene music stolen'!

This is quite the murky case indeed, with the using of tatu vocals and all. I wouldn't take this to court.

Ask for a couple of dvds of the movie though, cause stolen music aside, that movie looks fucking awesome! I really want to see it!

Oh, and I was listening to Timbalands new album 'Shock Value' yesterday and I counted the lifted samples.

I lost count at track 6.

it's not a bad album though.

gasman:it would be nice IF these people bothered to contact the people mentioned, get permission, i'm an idealist =).

Is this another american (no i'm not picking on americans) just its ironic .. a lot of the demo output is from europe and yet gets used by none euro's.

I think a more professional body needs to be set up for demo scene musicans along the lines of the MCPS. Chris Abbott represents some a number of c64 musicians though.

the film does look interesting, just it'd been nicer if they didn't assume things were fair game to just take. I can see the problem with a cover of a published song though.
okkie : but if u noticed there was a list of "samples from :" it would be better. I wouldn't even bother buying his work and giving him money indirectly, let alone listen to it. image based music, catchy and the test is , will i be listening in 5 years? quick fix disposable music.

its interesting some people think talent = record sales. yet i know of some producers who sell far less and for me have been breaking boundaries since the late 80's, who are uk based.. hence why some people in hip hop hire people from d&b to engineer their work ;-).

True dat. Although presumably the worst that could happen is that we'd have to pull the mp3 from the net. Yerz and Carl still have copyright over their contributions to the track, whether or not it's legal for any of us to actually distribute the thing.

Here's the list of musicians named in the trailer - so there's at least one name I recognise from here anyhow:

SnoopDroop
TSR
NullSLeeP
dotdUmmy
Anonymouse
Rushjet1

ok, looks like the credited music is all above board - things are looking up then. Will do some more hunting later...

I never said I bought the record :) I have no idea if the samples are credited or not.

gasman: I know two names... both NES musicians (Nullsleep and Rushjet1).
That's strange because one of the trailers I've seen clearly has AY/YM music. That's not NES... NES music sounds empty and flat... even with 5 channels.

And I don't think the music fits the trailer.

W00t. It sounds like the We Are The Strange thing is being settled amicably... apparently the music in question only appears in the trailer (despite what the confused YouTube rabble think) and is going to be suitably credited on YouTube shortly, and nobody had to call anyone else a freaking jerk. Case closed, for now :-)

...update: I also have "Anonymouse" on my NES music folder.

Well, you didn't break into Mosley's house and took his ProTools, so I guess you're good to go.

gasman, "world's greatest chipmusicians" isn't what i would call an insult.. so i don't feel too bad for Yerz.. but anyway, t.A.t.U. should be credited as well? o_O confusing..
