I can understand that people want money for their demos, although I wish money had no place in demoscene at all, but please people (not especially you Smash), cut the hypocrisy already :)

Hugs to you guys too, I really appreciated the kindness at LTP4. Good memories mixed with fucked up situations..

What really pissed me off as well was that by stealing a laptop those silly guys also deprived the compo of one party entry.

As for prizes, what is nice is when it pays your trip back.

Bon alors je ne crois pas avoir été vulgaire dans mes précédents messages, ni avoir dit d'insultes à ton encontre, alors je te prierai de te calmer un poil, d'autant plus que je n'apprécie absolument pas les remarques racistes que tu viens de faire, tu ne connais rien de ma vie actuelle, et je ne vois pas à quoi ca sert de déballer publiquement des trucs faux pour me discréditer.

Je comprend bien pourquoi personne de toute la bande d'avant ne souhaite ne te revoir ni avoir de tes nouvelles, franchement quand je vois la réponse que tu viens de faire... je suis écoeuré par ta dernière phrase, c'est une honte.

Sinon (j'en rajoute une couche) mais si tu relis bien attentivement mon 1er message, il faudra que tu m'explique bien pourquoi tu as fait une réponse agressive alors que je n'ai fait AUCUNE allusion à ta personne. D'où le mot bien choisi "aigritude", car ton commentaire était "aigre" voire "acide" même.

i rather participate in a compo where the prizes are just diplomas and frozen pizzas than a compo where the prizes are some random unusable hard-to-sell hardware of some company which has huge sponsor banners all over the place.

if sponsoring companies are not ready to give out cash then why should they get free advertising from us?

because they support the party in other ways than only by giving away prizes perhaps?

Sure, they most likely provide hardware to the organizers to get the party rolling.

But OTOH, they must realize that most sceners come from abroad and can not always bring back their loots and would much rather get a few buck to refund their plane/boat/whatever tickets.

Companies like AMD won't go bankrupt by giving away say 3 or 5.000€ at a party. And they'd most likely get better publicity this way.

Oh and FWIW I code for fun, but I love the thrill of a competition and nothing beats seeing your prod on a big screen. And to be honest the categories I'm interrested in would at best pay my trip ... if only I wasn't doomed :'(

i release at assembly because a) assembly's a nice party (not that you'd know, because youve never been) - you can go to clubs+bars in helsinki, meet loads of people you wouldnt otherwise see and have a few drinks on the rocks (and not sit in the hall all the time); b) because assembly's competitions are the best or 2nd best of the year on pc, along with breakpoint, and consistently so for years. thats actually one of the biggest factors. i/we ARE for sure competitive - it's a big part of the fun in the scene for me imo - and it's a lot more fun to compete with the best. and c) because a lot of my groupmates live in finland and quite a few in helsinki itself, and it's a rare opportunity for us all to get together - especially as a lot of them dont travel to foreign parties much.
maybe i should point out that most of our group could make several times more money doing some freelance in a fraction of the time and effort if they wished, or do so already - money is not the motivation for doing demos, because it would amount to being the hardest, longest, worst paid freelance job in the world.
and by the way, even winning 2 major compos and getting 2nd in another at asm this year still barely made me enough to cover the cost of my trip and time over there. im not complaining about that, but just remember it before you say we do it for the money.
and by the way again, we compete every year at breakpoint, too, for much the same reasons.
so how about a little cup of stfu from your end? :)

the thing with prizes is, as i explained on the asm oldschool thread once, is that if you are promised some nice prizes you feel hard done by, cheated, if they either dont show up or turn out crap. you feel like the organisers dont care about you/the scene.
if a party advertises beforehand that there's 2 grand of prizes, you feel a bit cheated afterwards when it turns out to be a thumbprint scanner or something. on the other hand, if a party says beforehand "these are the prizes / the prizes are non-existant" it wouldnt affect us entering (assuming the compo+party was still good etc) but we wouldnt feel bad at the end. my main point to party organisers is - dont overinflate the value of prizes to make people enter, people will enter anyway - just be honest. if you are giving a load of computer hardware, just say so. and by the way, free tickets for next year are some of the most valuable prizes you can give sometimes. :D

heu... j'ai jamais fait ca de ma vie, dans le cadre du boulot la seule chose que j'ai faite c'est un parser de formulaire de site de boule pour pouvoir submiter automatiquement nos vidéos HDV sur les sites, j'ai jamais fait de site de boule moi, tu confonds peut-être avec Régis ou d'autre personnes...



ouais moi aussi, j'étais plus heureux de ne pas me faire insulter gratuitement alors que je ne parlais pas de ta petite personne, mais comme d'habitude tu crois toujours à la grande conspiration, que le monde entier parle dans ton dos pour te casser du sucre dessus.

bon c'est pas grave, hein, je m'en branle en fait, c'est vraiment laid l'aigritude à ce niveau là, si tu n'es pas heureux de ta vie et de ce que tu es devenu c'est pas ma faute et c'est pas la peine de t'en prendre à moi en m'aggressant comme ca.
