Amiga Rulez!

category: residue [glöplog]

Did you know that all the CGI for Seaquest 5 were done on an Amiga? How much does Amiga rock!! And a great series. They talk to dolphins, Seals and Buckets! And captain Sheridan is the best!

The B5 effects sucked. If there is a reason to hail Amiga, this ain't it.

i remember a movie from the 90s with tracked music in the background (you hear some ST-XX samples and a static electro guitar)

... Compositing was somehow below the average in this serial, though the 3D scenes were interesting (I remember a giant squid). Seaquest was done on Lightwave. The orchestral score was a brilliant piece of music with sometimes peaceful and sometimes more epic themes.

only the pilot of BAB 5 (the CGI of course) were rendered by an A3000 cluster. As the series got approved by Warner they used Silicon Graphics muscle. Wise choice in the long run.
BAB 5 rulez! BTW :)

Woops, I didn't really mean "compositing" above. In fact I was thinking to the transitions between 3D scenes and live scenes. The difference was really obvious then.
BAB 5 had the same kind of problem (the jump points, for example) but to a lesser extent.

Darker times of CGI! Today this would not even suffice as in game graphics.

I remember when it used to be called Ray Tracing. I still say that sometimes and people don't have a clue. Lamers!

Here are a couple of examples of how Amiga was utilized to great effect utilizing the technology that the scientists have dubbed "Ray Tracing". Even if it is mostly used to simulate furniture, chessboards and fireplaces it can also be used together with technology that the scientists call "digitizers" and other amiga art programs to generate output such as below.

It can also be combined with professional juggling.

He looks like he's about to punch that baby dragon he's holding. Also, the dragon appears to have a shiny erection. What's that all about.

Is it a "he" or a "she"? Or perhaps a mix?
Afaik Amiga / Videotoaster were used only for season 1 on B5
