Just in case this hasn't been posted yet - me, Gargaj and Steeler are in San Francisco doing demoscene outreach and this is our blog - http://demotrip.blogspot.com/ - feel free to follow it (or post random images in this thread like usual :)

On our trip we will visit (and hold presentations for) among others; Pixar Animation Studio (link), Industrial Light and Magic (link) and Lucas Films (link), nVidia (link) and the San Francisco chapter of The Visual Effects Society (link).

Cool. Good luck.
But what's the objective of the trip? Were you invited for a series of workshops/talks?

Will those cg professionals really be interested in what a bunch of hobbyists (mainly) are doing?

Let's hope so...

"Three european guys are traveling to San Francisco (for the first time) to spread the word of the demoscene."

So... you are apostols of the demoscene!
Spread the sacred code!
Good luck!

If you're going... to San Francisco.. be sure to wear.. your scene.org shirt.

xernobyl: It started when we met Rick from Pixar at FMX this year. We've been in talks of doing this for half a year now, and we've been so lucky as to book seminar/talk-gigs with all the companies mentioned in the blog.

Preacher: I have a Solskogen t-shirt actually, since Melwyn never gave me a Scene.org one :)

This is simply GREAT. :D

Basicly if you succeed it will be a lot easier for sceners to work in VFX companies :D

xernobyl: And, if we are lucky; the other way around. :) Not with companies of course, but with individuals in the animation/VFX-community becoming sceners themselves, which is a clear secondary goal.

Yo gloom, who's taking your synths in charge while you're away? I wanna know if I can take a plane and timbaland them :)

Competition will rise sharply if you succeed. You MUST succeed. :)

When you are at it, you can perhaps force Dr. Jekyll to code that effect he promised me when you visit Pixar. Remember to bring a cat with nine tails.

Cat OF nine tails, that is. Here quite appropiately depicted along with a dollar bill. Which, incidentally, will work wonders as well.

Archmage: I told you on Bitfellas, coders handle that device, artists are the ones who have to taste it :)

Taste a dollar bill? ewwwwww, you're disgusting.

And now an eathquake ?! Some spooky forces are trying to warn our brave "raiders of the lost art" that outreaching the demoscene is not an option... :D

now i feel slightly bad for my conversation with gargaj yesterday.

gargaj: "berkeley was deserted. not a single person on the streets."
me: "maybe they know something you dont, maybe there's about to be an earthquake."

prophetic, eh.

Since we're talking about one of the most seismic place in the world (California), I wouldn't use the word "prophetic". :)

tomsawyer: The last big one was 20 years ago I believe. :) But I just have to ask, even though you used a smily up there; what is it you find so bad about doing outreach? I'm asking because once in a while I meet some scener who is really against telling other people about the demoscene and I just don't get why it's a bad thing. :)

The UK is the most seismically active in the world, not California. It's just they have stronger ones.

Tis true, you know.
