how to use two apps that use ASIO?

category: general [glöplog]

is it possible to use two independent applications that both use ASIO?
the situation is this: on one midi keyboard I have Traktor and on the other I want to run either a sequencer or a VSTHost or a standalone VST that would also use ASIO. But of course only one app plays now - the other is silent. Is it possible to somehow overcome this problem?
How about this: USE FUCKING GOOGLE!

How about this: DON'T FUCKING REPLY IF YOU HAVE NOTHING TO SAY!
You seem to have misunderstood a pretty simple concept: if you are searching for information.. SEARCH FOR IT!

Opening a new thread on Pouet for every little thing you want to know is simply not the way. In fact, I find it extremely egocentric. "I can't be bothered to research things myself - YOU THERE - DO IT FOR ME! Peasants, do my bidding!"

Fuck. You.

gloom: why are you so certain I posted at pouet without prior searching? Do you think I do not know what Google is? Or that pouet is the only resource I go to? But in fact, I did a very good search before posting here and if you have a problem with my threads, I honestly think that it is ridiculous - every day many absolutely silly threads are opened, so I think a question on a musical topic is very much ok.

Apparently, since I found a whole series of perfectly good answers to your question, even without knowing what system, ASIO-version or soundcard you have (three things you might want to mention when troubleshooting such things btw, but hey - who am I to correct the master researcher, eh?)

I consider most of your threads silly, that is true.

good. I am glad we're all agreed.
Indeed the first search result looks promising :D at least here :D

oh i though pouet was a community of demosceners...
seems like its more important to post 12000 posts on random threads :)

I agree with daXX, but as you can read on the disclaimer:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"The oldskool pouët BBS is not the demoscene, please visit a demoparty. This is merely a forum for sceners, with obviously too much free time, to release their frustrations and request salted communitary feedback, as opposed to polluting the prod comments section.

New users: please take your vaccines before entering, don't expect instant praise, and try not to feel easily insulted.
Old users: please don't feed the trolls. Reoccuring annoying behavior will result in a heavily subjective ban. Just try not to piss off 90% of our active users with childish and/or idiotic behaviour and you should be safe.

You have been warned."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, we must all take it easy.

Kisses for everyone.

the reason to ask at forums is because apart from general info you want to receive advice from someone who might've had actual experience. and there are a lot of musicians here.
perhaps gloom was in a bad mood yesterday or perhaps he simply doesn't like me, but I think this topic is a normal valid topic, although not a single reply was helpful.
btw.. i have the same problems with ASIO drivers since i got my new soundcard. its the same soundcard i had before and there it works fine with 2 apps. Now i can only start one app. The second one play all stuff double slow. Why ever.

If you find a result how to fix that inform me please :)

An idea not tested:

Use ASIO original driver for one application and Asio4All for the other. May be this way you can avoid conficts.

Here's what eventually I found out on another forum: there is that application called VAC - Virtual Audio Cable. It can channel various sound outputs into one. I tried a demo version and it worked wonderfully, although it did have latency issues but the manual says it can be configured to have no latency at all.
I could play both FL Studio and Traktor.
VAC gives audio-artifacts afaik.
I've encountered the same problem and solved it using directsound instead of ASIO. If you somehow mange to get two ASIO-apps with simultainous audio output: let me know.

Oh and please reply if you've got nothing to say!

Yeah, but afaik, you cannot use directsound in Vista....
