demo'ish words (why not?)

category: general [glöplog]
compo's a shorthand I've yet to encounter anywhere else.

scene-specific words:
to demo, the verb, as in: "I'll be busy demoing tomorrow night."

demoish words:
anything that mixes german and finnish and whatever other strange language sounds demoish to my ears :D

Graphician is a great example. I didn't even knew it wasn't a real word :|

Graphician, which has already been mentioned, is indeed unique to the demoscene. When we were at ILM during the demoscene outreach tour in 2007, a graphic artist there was so into the description (he thought it sounded like a perfect blend of "graphic artist" and "magician") that he was going to order new businesscards with that title on it. :)

i must agree that graphician is so far the best example of scene-only word. Tho i'd link it more with musician than magician :P

Compo meaning competition rather than composition is a nice axample too.

there is also musicdisk and diskmag but here the whole concept is scene-specific.

and now there is also the terms tracker, mod, demo, intro, which are very misleading, even more for gamer-lamers!

"four k" is used all the time in the movie industry (refering to resolution, not file size).

Well, many "demo words" are used in different context: 4k/8k (film), plasma (physics), demo (games, presentations, etc.). Diskmag is not a scene exclusive term either. I think it was also used for commercial/pd mags on floppy disks.

"demoish" sounds quite demoish...

well it's time to sleep :)
"Graphician" is a completely logical (mis)translation from a Finnish point of view at least:

musician = muusikko
graphic artist = graafikko

Some of those words are so obviously non-demoscene that I feel embarassed about this thread. Serioulsly Optimus, rickrolled?
i only hope he was trolling.
oh trolling, new word! :P
