pouët.net

Some ideas for would-be-cool/useful features :)

category: general [glöplog]
yeah, if you use an ftp client, otherwise you cant see the total size using some webbrowser :)

I guess this is the place to ask.. how about making the rating separate from the comments? That way, we could go back and rate a bunch of prods without having to add comments to them all, if we couldn't think of anything to say.

well, if you have already commented the prod, just put something like "already commented, just voting"
and in case you have nothing to say about a prod you didn't comment, don't rate it ^^

I thought many times about how to implement a better popularity system in pouet.net. there was:

  1. the one page for each member, where he could choose the best prods, like ojuice
  2. the separate comment/rating on each prod
  3. the old "no need to rate" popularity system
  4. the rate with comments
  5. the merge between the popuarity of the group, the popularity of the prod, and the ranking in party

well, C didn't work well, and I don't really like B, I don't know why. so I choose D.
But if I'm wrong, I'll swap again ^^;

OK, if you prefer linking ratings with comments ("CDE" style?) that's fine. I'll just be able to get more glops that way. :)

you really shouldnt need to enter a comment to be able to vote.. this will just end up getting _way_ lot more comments.
also, most people wont bother voting for the bad prods..
you need to find another way to get good voting system working.
have you considered allowing every user to only write 1 comment (and 1 vote) on each production.
also, voting good/ok/bad is hardly enough (maybe it works for the system you have implemented right now i dunno, but what i have in mind would be more flexible. each person rating it as they see fit (in their own scale) and then addapting it somehow to the popularity (having in mind that each person doesnt follow the ratings as the next person so you would have to make an average somehow out of all the votes from each person...

oh yeah and please re-add the authors corner on each prod, most people dont fill them but... other people can always fill them later.. and would really be a nice feature...
(also giving authors access to edit their own prods as they see fit, if the authors are registered that is..)

that's all i can think of right now, keep up the cool work analogue :)

allowing users to change their old comments (which would also be nice couz that would mean you wouldnt have to add another comment to rate the prod) would be nice aswell..

yeah, i'd like to be able to change my old comments too. that way i could also take back anything stupid i said after i changed my mind. :)

i believe it would be nice if we had some kind of voting system for the prods.. more like "Internet Movie DataBase" at www.imdb.com.. everybody who is registered at the site can vote either 1 or 10 for a demo, and the site will calculate and average for the prod. i think this would be more accurate than just counting the ones who have visited the page with the prod because when a prod gets to the top10, people will press that prod more and it will become even more "popular" that it already is... // A_Lee_N

I want to get glöps for writing to bbs! damn it! :)

...and for oneliners! and screenshot and nfo submissions! hehe

it would be nice too to convert all html codes to bb codes in all comments/oneliners ..
since bb codes are available on pouet.net, all html codes don't work.

it would be nice to add a "MORE..." button on the LATEST ADDED PRODS table on the left of the home page like it already features below the ONLINER table

it would also be really cool to save in a cookie the latest stuff there was on pouet on your last visit so you can add a "NEW" button besides the new stuffs

but I know you (analogue) dislike cookies ^^

yeah! what poï² said, especially a "more" link on the last added prods.

Also, what about a system where you log in once, and say logged in until you log out (cookie or whatever)? This way you don't have to type logon/pass everytime you're using a pouet.net-feature...

fractalgp

I don't want to talk for Analogue, but he already said he doesn't approve to leave a cookie with one's login/pwd for some security reason.

Typing you login/pwd doens't really hurts unless you use a 64 randomly generated characters pwd ;)

but leaving a cookie with the timestamp of last sutff you saw on your last visit wouldn't take any prejudice to the security of anyone's datas

in fact, I'm thinking about add cookie support to pouët.net, because most clients support it now, which is not the case of java/javascript.

one other little thing that should slightly improve pouet is to sort everything (comments,post...) in newer2older order except the onliner which is historically in older2newer order

but I may be too finicky ;)

i dont want cookie because i use more than one computer, and i dont whant anybody can use my account to make mistakes
and login each time is good because you must think the submit you do, quality submits rulez :)
Well, when I'm talking about cookies, I'm talking about short time life cookies, ie. those who expire when you close your browser...

But if you don't want cookies, I understand and I'll not support them on pouët.net ^^

Another idea: How about a resource-page or something where you can get information on good emulators (download locations) for various platforms one can find demos for here on pouët.net. And how to unpack and patch many old DOS-demos/intros to get rid of the TP-bug etc... Such things needs qualitycontrol though, so no "get 5 glöps for adding an emulator". that would result in many bad emulators listed etc...

I DO want cookies to stores which stuffs were already on pouet last time I came (storing the login/pwd is useless IMO)
and for that, you just have to store about 10 timestamps (~128bytes)

if I understand you analogue, you are more likely speaking of session variable, but I don't see what it'd bring to pouet, can you enlight us?

fractalgp's idea is good

IMHO, the 2 greatest features are the MORE button in the latest prods table, and the cookie to see what changed

ho...I forgot to tell that this "forum" is a very very very good idea

What about a top 10 ordered by "type" insteat of "platform"? "Top 10 diskmag prods" would be nice for example.
added on the 2001-06-18 10:08:38 by mados mados
to improve mad/os's idea, I'd say it'd be cool to be able to select the way you wanna see the top 10:
by platfom/type or all together

Just another idea: What about a detailed list of the latest comments instead of just "+24" ? Would be rather usefull imho. :)
added on the 2001-06-19 19:22:13 by tomaes tomaes
that should probably be a part of a "more.." page for the "some stats" section. ie you click on more, and it shows the names of the new prods, the names of the new groups, names of the new users, and prods with new comments. make sense?
added on the 2001-06-19 21:31:19 by phoenix phoenix
makes perfectly sense. good idea.
