Edmonton Outreach

Yeah, well. Not a success. Postered NAIT campus, postered some streets, add announcements on two well-visited local websites, and sent PSA's to two volunteer radio stations. Didn't add up to much. I guess people know what they want, they want what they know -- and they don't know the demoscene.

All the same, people did stay until the very end, so that's a positive sign.

And hey, I finally got to see demos on the BIG screen with a fantastic sound system!

That's Joe with the tech support guy setting up his machine to the beamer.

Here's the rest of the theatre...

You can't really see anything, but that's a touch-screen LCD which is used to control the projector, sound system volume, light dimming, basically everything for the theatre. Fancy! The smaller screen above shows what signal is being sent to the beamer. (Two computer inputs, DVD player, some fancy overhead project, and one or two other things.)

I honestly don't think NAIT is the place for demos. Sure, it's got all the latest toys, but the school is kinda redneck. Next time I'm going to try the University of Alberta. (40 000 + students, complete with an arts program.)

This summer: Now that Joe is interested in demos, I may have a partner in crime. If anything happens in Edmonton this coming summer, it'll be a mixed demo party and outreach. Mostly a party/compo, but the "Final Event" being a public outreach followed by announcement of winners, prize-giving, and public encore viewing of the winning releases.

Another thing: The NAIT newspaper didn't publish my article. Instead, one of the editors wrote her own version. Very poorly written and full of errors. They didn't even use my carefully selected screenshots, instead publishing images from who-knows-where. Totally ugly. I'm going to have to scan this so you can all have a laugh.

On a side note, the group using the theatre just before the outreach event was some none other than Halliburton. Yes, *that* Halliburton. They left some of their promotional pens, so I grabbed one to show my support for democracy in Iraq. Blah...
Any "partyreport"/(more) photos/demolisting available? Would be cool.
