metoikos: I call $100 for a BnB on thje edge of ridiculous. I even payed less for a hotel room in DC about 2 years ago.

My Chicagoland hotel last september was $75 night even (admittingly, that was a rate on the EXCELLENT of scales)

And this is why there are no affordable hotel rooms in town that weekend/week... http://convention.bio.org/

1. There were cheaper options that I listed than $100, if you choose to take them.

2. That conference doesn't start until the 18th. @party is the 15-17th.

3. re Chicago, things are cheaper in the midwest. Also, when was that? Prices have risen in the past two years, and DC is (believe it or not) smaller than Boston.

As for Air France, I brought a visitor on that airline and they switched his flight around. I also heard bad things from other European sceners. I only mentioned it in case someone reading might have a bias against it. Me, I could give a care.

Also, I just listed a few options which were dramatically under $200, there are lots more that are near it, but not over, in Cambridge, and other cheaper all along the Red Line, the subway line the partyplace is on, not just in Boston. Like NYC, getting a hotel in adjoining cities is a good option. Here, let me post a map . . .

Above is a picture of the subway lines in Boston.

This is a link to a map showing adjoining areas.

I was getting around to putting this info on the website, but we'lre still over four months out. I'm trying to work on sponsorships first. Our orgo team is pretty small, so we all have to do multiple jobs. A lot of other parties don't get to it until three months out. : D I'll get to it before that.
Well, for intercontinental travel you need to do some of these things in advance. euro is tanking when these flights are basically billed in USD, fuel surcharges are on the rise, cheap seats on selected transport method will sell out. So yep this goes on some months in advance :)

Seems that most of the Biotech posse can be avaoided by moving my "week in boston" to the timeslot before @party, hence finishing the week with the even instead of starting it.

"reasonable" rates for hotels now - for a larger city that does not seem to have enough of them, oh how i like Saabrucken suddenly, and even the flights get cheaper (see seats selling out)

By Grabthar's Hammer... What a savings !

I wish we could have the option of sleeping in the party place as you guys do. But we need more sponsors to afford that, as I want to keep entry ticket costs low . . .
Sleeping in the hostel was an option for the prior two; was there a (probably cost-prohibitive) reason we're not in the youth hostel again this year?

beeing a frequent flyer, i totally hate air france. i have nothing against yout hostels as well, but youth hostels don't try to kill you everytime you stay there.

re trixter: to grow the party I had to move in to transit, both to make it more accessible to locals and to folks visiting. Now you don't need a car or a ride to get there.

re pro: yes, that is what I heard.

re both: I am going to look into some kind of discount deal at a nearby hotel, but there are many options in Boston as I indicated further up on the thread, if one is willing to try something different - B&B, hostel, etc. I admit I wish I had a reason to stay onboard that clipper ship myself ( ;
speaking of, this is also a good list

Yeah but with one m.

I was waiting for someone to pick up on that. : D
Ziphoid is coming to @party! We will likely have another guest from Europe but have to do some last minute paperwork before we can announce that.

SceneSat will be broadcasting sound and possibly video from the partyplace! Yeeaaaah!
Woohoo! I really hope I can afford to come. Need any decorations? ;)

I've actually never had problems with Air France. I should mention that I've recieved free business class upgrades TWICE, so I'm more than happy to fly with them again :) (in fact, I will, for GDC). The only issue with Air France is Charles De Fucking Gaulle.

re IC
decorations rock! sure! Also it would be nice if you came.

re gloom
I brought kb on Air France. IIRC, the trip here was ok. On the trip back, his flight got canceled and he was stuck in CDG for an age. He was Not Happy.
I've also heard that making tight connections in CDG can be difficult. Haven't been there, so no idea if it is worse than O'Hare (Chicago) or Heathrow. Mainly it's the whole going between terminals thing . . . Me I usually use Icelandair or Swiss, but they didn't have good prices from Germany. Swiss is nice (yum real food), but definitely more expensive, however better for going to Hungary, for example, than Icelandair, which is better for getting to points north. We'll be flying Icelandair to revision, and used it before to get to Finland. This past summer we used an assortment of airlines -- Swiss, Wizz, Norwegian, and Iceland Express. I'd put up with Wizz and Iceland Express again, but Dr Claw has longer legs and had a more miserable experience.
CDG is the worst airport in the world, and a NIGHTMARE on tight connections. Staff are unfriendly and Annoyed(tm) all the time, it's absolutely impossible to figure out where you're going (through that door? up? down? WTF? is that a bus?! do I get off here?! OR HERE?!) etc.

IcelandAir is nice, but beware of of co-flights with SAS, which are not that nice. So far, my best flying experiences has been with Qatar Airways and Virgin Atlantic.

gloom: ahh yes, I remember CDG well, it was a layover on my first ever intl flight (to.. guess where.. Oslo, for TG98). My flight from NYC was late, and needless to say, by the time I found the connection it was already gone (managed to get a later flight after rounding the airport a couple times in terminal buses).
