Calodox(Demoscene) against Calodox(YouTube) - any thoughts, sceners?

category: offtopic [glöplog]
I've found this to be truly interesting. I'd like to know what you guys over here at Pouet think about this current state of affairs.

Here's the background. I run a YouTube channel where I only post videos that have my music in them, be they "musicvideos" or captures of demos or intros.

As one would expect, the Calodox intros/demos I've been involved in, are posted. This should be fine, right? Nooo. What is occurring is this:
--
*I had no part in making this video, people trying to use my name for views.....FAIL
*Calodox 1 week ago

*Calodox is a demoscene group from Switzerland, and this video, being a demoscene video of a demo created by me, my friend Fthr/Tpolm and the Swiss demogroup Calodox, has the correct title.
*youarelackluster in reply to Calodox

*Actually, your committing copyright infringement by using my alias that I trademarked in 1996.
*Calodox in reply to youarelackluster
--

Now, I consider this to be ridiculous - anyone who has a brain should be able to make the distinction between Calodox (Demoscene) and some Calodox dude on YouTube.
* http://www.youtube.com/user/Calodox/videos

I'm just wondering how to proceed - I'd rather not start dissing him for being dim / dense, but if he's so adamant about .. uhh.. "copyright infringement due to trademarked name" (!?!?!), he could probably get my whole account deleted if he wanted to (and knowing YouTube, they'll do it, no questions asked).

So, what exactly should I do?

Calodox' first prod is also from '96, so it's a tie. ;)

Maybe rename your videos to "calodox[swiss demoscene group]" etc., just to be in the clear. He most likely doesn't know what a "demoscene group" even is, so link him to the appropreate wiki articles/info materials. Make clear, that your stuff is "no profit" and in no way related to whatever he's doing.

maybe i should rename the group to calodox.ch or something. the guy is weird, i cannot find a single mention of him on Discogs or any videos related to his music, i think he's just terrorizing people for fun and kicks.

"Calodox" -> "Members of the Swiss Demoscene Group called Calodox"

and Calodox -> Calodox.Ch on the titles. i don't know what more to do, it should be dead-obvious to anyone. i'm surprised the guy does not keep commenting on all the other videos on YouTube that are Calodox demograbs

I think, he's bluffing and he didn't trademark anything. Most stuff on google search is about the demoscene group anyway, so I think you have the better case. You should be fine. :)

when you do a search for calodox in youtube, the first page is filled with hits to prods by the demogroup calodox, though there is one video with 47 views made by some 'calodox1'

distance, i can't understand why you care about some loser in youtube enough to even make a post a bout it.

nosfe: simple, i had a really rather decent youtube account with interesting videos deleted due to a complaint to youtube. i don't want that to happen again.

this is stupid indeed, people can actually copyright names only for the sake of keeping the name for themselves while they would not use it as much as some other people. It's the perfect example right here, he could have copyrighted it but never did anything relevant and only internet justice should work.

Anyway, my point (just posted btw) is: pic of it did not happen.
Actually, google is fucked up, the guy is nothing even on YT (11,000 views, come on that's real low) and he only clicked on liked but a search for "calodox musician" makes him FIRST. I don't get this google.
Seriously: ignore him the fuck.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH AHHAH AHHHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

No.

You cannot copyright a name. You can trademark a name, sure, but that's something _completely_ different. Trademarks also work within certain regions, and is a much lighter legal protection than copyrighting something.

Basically: he's talking out of his ass. Ignore the fuck.

..and TESS shows no registered trademarks for "calodox". Again: ignore the fuck. :)

Ask him what his trademark number and country of registration are. If he can give an answer that checks out, *then* you can start taking him seriously, because without that information, YouTube won't take him seriously either.

The fact that he doesn't know the difference between copyright and trademark is probably a good sign that he doesn't own one, though.

(No matching US trademarks found on uspto.gov, for what it's worth.)

thanks gloom + gasman + kaneel (altho i dont think the guy will understand your comment to him on youtube)

your goal isnt to make him understand, your goal is to make youtube understand :)

And his youtube-page states he's 25 years old, so I very much doubt he did anything in '96 :)

Damn, Chromag and Chromagic are both trademarked (bikes and shampoo). I'm leaving the scene!

/me sings:
"I´m a hardy boy"
"in my hardy world"
it's a syndrome btw, I had a girl on myspace who though I ripped her name on myspace... but hopefully you can't either trademark or copyright kaneel :)
And even if you can, you can still stick to Monsieur Baguette instead.
look what brostep, hardstyle and hard trance do to you...
WHATS WRONG WITH HARDSTYLE >:(
