Well - all this making fun of and shit is hilarious. But it does seem alien and kenet has a point, however small that point may be. The lack of reaction from h2o does suggest some sort of acknowledgement that what was done wasn't exactly the smartest of things, and to be honest, I think everything would be just fine, if he just came clean and admitted that he used those brushes/pixels/bits/whatever so everyone could get on. It doesn't necessarily make people's view on anyone change, but it would at least show some proper scene-manner and respect towards other sceners and their work.

It's a bit funny to see how people who cooperate with crackers/hackers who again distribute stolen property, complain about stealing.

D.Fox: it is however a different thing to steal from a friend/fellow than from a faceless corporation

because as we know, faceless corporations dont employ people.

but hey, here's a thought experiment: would you pirate the aforementioned Project Giana?

And on that note, my deepest respect to Faizer, Jogeir Liljedahl, Purple Motion, Skaven and probably a dozen more, whose samples I definately used at some point or another, as did anyone else in the 90's ;-)

Gargaj: I might actually do it on principle. Who the hell tries to make a living from SW dev anyway?
Whoa - became rather disconnected as 100 people just posted between my posts there :-S

T-101: It's not different - it's just easier because you don't have any attachment to them.

we're not having a talk about money or corporation here, but about humanity and the respect which has to come with.
contributing to cracktros is a way to show art and have an audience, too, that's not supporting the crack itself but kinda taking profit of its propagation to get seen.
and these very corporations wouldn't go to bankrupt if they weren't selling their auctions, letting John Doe decide whether it has to be closed or not.
and what Punqtured said, that's basically what we (alien/kenet/myself) want too, and that's about it.

the fuck's this supposed to mean?

irokos: or course they're supporting the crack - they might not have contributed to the actual cracking but they put their name on a logo which is associated with pirated software.

But hey - we're not talking about piracy here. I was just trying to point out the double standards here.

it's supposed that complaining about corporations (which from the boss comitee is richer than the king of gold himself) getting down because these very same richer than rich people estimate that if a game is pirated it's lost money while it's just not gained money is not a valid reply nor thread to talk about. we all know how it works.

it's supposed to mean*

you apparently don't, no offence.

I always thought his work was kinda lame and completely unoriginal...

i don't take it as an offence at all, no worries on that point.
well, seeing how poverty goes on while richer people get richer, seeing people get fired from game companies for economical reasons would be normal. and it's already happened.
but the rich people stay rich, and estimate that pirating is the reason why the game industry goes down, while it's just money playing/tax raises which force them to pay more for the same service. they ain't happy, want to have the same amount of money at the end of the month and thus fire randomly. no, it's not a joke, it happens everyday, maybe not in the game industry but everywhere else, it does.

dodke: my first reaction to this whole thing was "Well, I prefer Alien's stuff so he's probably right in this discussion" :)
irokos: so how about independent game developers?
added on the 2012-08-30 17:26:52 by Gargaj Gargaj
i'm agree.
i feel like it's pretty sad, yes. "big" corporations have money, indie developpers don't.
in this case this is the audience which doesn't have any heart.

so ultimately, dfox is right when he talks about double standards.

you just proved it to me, yes. thanks =)
