Blender Don'ts/Dos/Rueful Comments

category: gfx [glöplog]

For general amusement, if any knowledgeable graphicians who use this entertaining tool care to comment (yes, there will be a chorus of "Use Zbrush!" and I will reply "Newb with no money for Zbrush who is also used to vector programs!"), feel free to share your Top Five/Ten Lists of Don'ts/Dos/Rueful Comments vis a vis Blender

These can be facetious.

Here are some of mine (I need to get back to work . . . ). Top Eight. Whatever.

-It seems like a really good idea to make something out of separate primitives and join them, until you discover the Sculpt tool.

-Saving many versions of stuff is great. Save a version BEFORE you start to play with the Sculpt tool.

-Subdivide faces sounds like a good idea, until Blender decides that all the faces around your helpfully subdivided faces should be triangles. Crap.

-Merge vertices: THE BEST THING EVER.

-Can't make two sides of something look the same? Cut it in half, then duplicate, mirror, and join. Add faces as needed.

-My mouse needs a better scroll wheel. Maybe I need a better mouse.

-After you've been working with Blender and you try to do something else, suddenly it is infuriating that the scroll wheel no longer zooms. DAMMIT, this should be a part of normal UIs! Well, if you hold down a key (after all, you still need to move in the y plane).

-Backwards faces: a social problem.
