Great stuff from fairlight, really nice style, good design, good code, and a really good tune (with perhaps the best sounding audio i've heard in a 64k too :)

Does it require shaders?
gorgeous colour scheme in this.. and you really can't get fresher :)
well worth the wait ;)

lordgraga: take a look at the nfo :)
"needs a ps1.1/vs1.1 class card or better, 512mb ram, a semi-fast machine (1.5+), and win2k or better."

So what? That's just funky fresh! Respect.

lordgraga: one day, a final will remove the need for pixelshaders, just cos of my conscience.
but for now, you need a gfx card from _this_ century to run it. =)

Really cool 64k, funky sound, phat design and it runs very well on my 3 years old geforce III gfx card.

Damn, I want SWVP fallbacks, at least until my company gives me a new gfx card ;)

(yep, again, there ARE cards with full ps2.0 support but no vertex pipeline at all)

Fuckings to Fairlight.
rulez added on the 2004-11-02 14:04:39 by superplek superplek
The colour scheme was superb and I liked the abstract models, but I agree with Okkie about the stopping objects. It looked like my hard drive was paging or I was low on ram or something.

More importantly, PLEASE QUIT WITH THOSE BARGAIN BASEMENT CHEAPO TEXT OVERLAYS! Just like "We Cell" this intro had quite a classy style but the overlays made it look so tatty.
"secret life...", "from dust..." and now this... respect aiii, you RULEZ! music rOXx.

Ah ! The best prod from BCN !!! ...
Stop speaking about the colorsheme you all blinds, this is:

:-) R.A.D.I.O.S.I.T.Y. :-)

So, what it calculated in the init (megathumb-up) or pre-done by vertex with a modeler and then compressed ?
(still megathumbup)

Radiosity aside, I don't think this was particularly entertaining. The ribbons were nice but the other scenes were totally forgettable, and I didn't like the contrast between the background and the logos. Perhaps I was just expecting better after waiting for the long precalculation, but..

break:
most likely, lack of hardware vertex processing (vertexshaders)? or trying for an antialiasing mode your card doesnt support?
added on the 2004-11-02 17:02:18 by smash smash
What do you know, it was the AA mode. Never had problems with that before.

Nice to see someone still making properly designed 64k:s instead of the usual Fr08-ish boredom. Very good for a flyby =)

smash: then try D3DCREATE_SOFTWARE_VERTEXPROCESSING if HWVP didn't work. Thats like all you have to do.

Besides from that: after watching it on a workmate's PC i must say this rocks. Nice fast ambient occlusion lighting algo. Music was cool, overlay texts were a bit too wannabe-orange for me tho. Have to second Shane in this regard.

rulez added on the 2004-11-02 17:36:52 by kb_ kb_
beautiful objects and stuff, music rocks.
The only things disturbing were that, erm, tag(not-so-good-style) and the slight emptiness.

smash: eg. the Intel ExtremeGraphics 915 (which you'll find on every second mobo in the near future, so it will be not too uncommon) which is in my (Intel sponsored ;) work PC at the moment.

The thing fully supports PS2.0 and is somewhere between a GFFX5200 and 5600 speedwise, but it has no vertex pipeline at all. D3D can only be used in software vertex processing mode (which doesn't prohibit using pixel shaders at all, no "emulation" necessary).

The only differences I encountered were that you had to specify software vertexprocessing, and most importantly fill out those "StartIndex" and "VertexCount" fields of DrawIndexedPrimitive() correctly - otherwise every call will transform the whole vertex buffer instead of the small piece that you're actually using... which is dead slow.

But at least on my P4HT 3.4 it's way faster than a GF5200 even with software VP.

Consistent design and brilliant audio. The precalc is a bit boring (make a "save data" version, so i can wait less after the first look) and the action a bit static, but it sure is one of the best releases of this year so far.

The screenshot raised my expectations pretty high, but upon watching the intro I was let down. I thought the "ribbon" would flow around, kinda like in rythmic gymnastics, but instead it just draws itself onto the screen.

However, the sound quality was very good.
a video would be really really nice so poor students with gf4mx like me can watch it.

rulez added on the 2004-11-03 02:31:59 by ithaqua ithaqua
music is ok, colors and shapes are nice but those 2d layers are ugly and dont fit the rest of the visualsl.
vertex shaders required to display a few thousands tris with texture mapping? no way.
the dull flyby eventually bored me. 2 minutes of precalc did not help to avoid that.

I did however, find music and the visual design quite unfresh.
added on the 2004-11-04 16:05:04 by sofokles sofokles
just as a note, i think the "4x AA" actually refers to the level of filtering, so its probably 16x in reality. Try 2 or 3 unless you have a really high end card.

Euhm... The lightning in the screenshoot looks good, but when running the intro it felt rather cheap and booring.

It doesn't suck, but i fail to see the fresh in it, or well if the "fresh" is meant as in mr.Fresh compo, then i understand ;)
