Not really impressive, since the hardware doesn't have much to do with a C64 except the name ...

preacher : not the first demo, if you look at csdb. there are other things.. since i haven't modd'd my dtv.. I can't say about these yet. the legends that are crest have done some things also =)
milestone for dtv coding

old64scener: first PROPER demo, with real effects taking advantage of the DTV hardware. I don't recall seeing any else.. this is miles better than the other ones I've seen.

This is ace, nice music, nice use of hardware. Some of the design stiull bothers me but I can only say that this is great still!

Btw. Where is the last picture in the demo taken/ripped/whatever from? I know the picture but don't remember what was the name of it.
rulez added on the 2007-05-29 16:31:30 by waffle waffle
or was it actually by some scener(titus perhaps)? anyway recall seeing it somewhere :)
added on the 2007-05-29 16:37:48 by waffle waffle
Not sure about the possibilities of the DTV. Guess we need some more demos to establish a standard. But nice to see some effects.

waffle: I did show a version of that picture already in my collection of pictures on different places ;) . It was never used in a project yet - and so it was a nice opportunity to do it.

AAAARGRGGGGHHH!!!! I was just in the NetCafe downloading demos for my 486 for hours (some 100 of them) and the video of this demo. The video crawled so much in a player and I reset the computer and the netcafe comptuer erased everything I have been downloading for hours.ARGH!!!

Ok,. this has nothing to do with a review about this demo, but you know HOW THIS FEELS:P

Great stuff, looking forward to more DTV demos!

The only thing I don't like is that it makes my forthcoming DTV demo look bad by comparison! :)

Nice effects. Needs more design :)
rulez added on the 2007-05-29 22:49:11 by xernobyl xernobyl
nice shit going on!

Sdw: Well, since your forthcoming DTV release isn't released yet you can always work some more on it.. push the limits!! :)

Hmm, I shouldn't bash this prod just because I disapprove of the 'C64' in the name of the hardware ...
Thumb up for the new platform investigation ... :-)
rulez added on the 2007-05-30 00:23:53 by Steel Steel
in short what it can do other than emulating a c64:

-the emulated cpu can run roughly 3 times faster than 1mhz.
-extra cpu registers which can be mapped into the real ones sadly most of them reserved to do banking and stuff.
-320x200x8bpp linear mode
-other colorful modes but with attribute restrictions
- set screen address & modulo
- blitter with 2 channels, source, modulo, linelength, 2 channels can be combined with minterms (and/or/not/adc/etc)
- dma
- 2 megs ram with a straightforward banking system.

cool one

although being somehow a little too slow-paced, this is a great product showing off the amazing capabilities of the DTV. streettuff, cool to see a "real" demo from you again, not another animation test. =)
and the music was gorgeous. excellent work, linus my old pal!

The DTV seems to be a very cool demo platform, sort of like what the Commodore 65 would have been, but released some 20 years later. :-) And this is a milestone in DTV demos, no doubt.
rulez added on the 2007-05-31 22:10:15 by Radiant Radiant
There are several nice effects here, even though I am sure I can expect more from DTV in the futre.
rulez added on the 2007-05-31 23:21:03 by Optimus Optimus
First time I saw a DTV demo. It's really great, I like the design and the spirit, that some new things could be done with a C64 (DTV)
rulez added on the 2007-06-01 12:26:56 by kRadD kRadD
a bit too slow paced for my taste but anyway good work (and for beeing the first to do a REAL DTV demo).

i bet peiselulli's got some more routines to show in the near future...

fisrt time for me too on a dtv, i like it, great style and effect! trsi forever!
rulez added on the 2007-06-02 12:53:33 by sINk sINk
Nice graphics but the effects don't impress me much, considered the machine has an 320x200 chunky mode. Don't understand me wrong, the effects are nice but nothing that make me go "wow, holy shit!". The thing I truely hate here is the music, it's utterly boring and bad, I am sorry to say. Destroys the whole demo for me and thus no thumb. But nice demo anyway. :)

stingray, eventho it has 320x200x256 its still weaker than an a500.

rulez added on the 2007-06-23 11:27:35 by Midfit Midfit
Music wasn't really to my taste and the demo was a bit boring, I'm sure that more impressive stuff than shadebobs could have been made and actually there were not that many routines... Grettings part was boring. Piggie then.
added on the 2007-06-23 11:39:06 by Shockwave Shockwave
The music is ok but do not fit the demo. There nothing really new about it but the platform for me. Piggy.

I think it could be a lot of fun to code this demo. It's always interesting to exploit the possibilities of a "new" machine.

It looks good, but man, I didn't see shadebobs in demos since decades :))

The music is good, but I am afraid the DTV can't emulate the SID properly...

Anyway, it was a pleasure to see this video, thumbs up.
