Needs moarr polygonz, texture-resolutionz and post effects. Or was it made on a rig with an old graphics card, that couldnt handle more? Other than that a solid production.

Salinga: it's a Raspberry Pi demo.

Ah, ok. Then I take everything back and assert the opposite.

there.

the surrounding (esp the floor) looked too early-00s-low-poly for my taste but other than that a very solid production.
the music is also very enjoyable and makes this thumb go up with ease.

Even if previous gen (but hey, it's a raspberry pie), I still dig this! Long time I have seen such feelingfull worlds, imaginative objects from another reality, spacey colors and moody music, I love it. It will be especially great to plugin the raspberry and try this!
rulez added on the 2014-03-22 20:24:04 by Optimus Optimus
The visual style wraps around from being annoying to being pure genius.

it's cute and the models have some charm, i like the style, but it goes on for a bit too long imo, well done anyway :)

I like some of the 3D-modelling. I dont necessarily agree with the colors though. Didn't get the music either. Since its a one man show i'll thumb it up, because I see some improvement.

Modeling, graphics, music, I like all of that.

what optimus said.
really nice and quite unique demo. very x-mix'ish but music could be better.

"highly plastic", bullshit.

the main 3d objects look pretty good, the simplified terrain and skybox make it look like those cheesy psychedelic animations from the late 80s though.

Did not like the music and design, but the overall weirdness somehow makes it quite captivating.

This is art :) Nice relaxing Dream-Dance-Style music, less sci-fi noise would be better for the athmosphere, I really like it somehow as it is very different

It has a nice and unique art direction , accompanied by a fitting soundtrack and good camera work. What's not to like about this? I DO like it! :D
rulez added on the 2014-03-24 02:10:10 by SunSpire SunSpire
While the other entries in the compo were more technically impressive, this was easily the most enjoyable one for me. Unique art design is a rare quality, and I wish more demos went completely off the wall with it.

Not a big fan of the creature (robot?) design in the first couple of scene, but the infinite egg part and the rest is pretty cool.

This is different, which is good, of(f)course it is!
My problem with it is that the music aswell as the graphics feel like 10 years ago most of the time, while the newskool-stuff is all in there already!
Did i say all? You missed one Post-Effect that would have made this really good: HypnoGlow! or Bloom, as non-Demosceners call it! ;)
All in all you made a nice Demo there, i guess you had a lot of fun while making it, which must have took some time as well! ;) Too bad about the placement, but as said: Do sth similar again and add some HypnoGlow, you´ll feel how much better this is the moment you apply the "bloom" to this very demo! (to test if i am right about what i am trying to tell you! ;) )

hArDy: thank you. :-) The problem is, I targeted mainly the Raspberry Pi, and not cared about the PC version. The Raspberry Pi has a _very_ low pixel fillrate. There are some scenes where the engine is doing multi-pass rendering and the fps drops down there to 15-20 fps. The average is 45 fps in 1600x900. That's why there is no post-processing. So next time I think I will boost the quality of the PC version a bit. :-)
added on the 2014-03-26 12:46:53 by blueghost blueghost
You should aim for 30+ fps on 1280*720! Thats what we 4K-people do, as we have to sphere-march everything to keep up with the quality of others 4Ks!
Higher Resolutions are a good thing to aim at if you dont use any Tracing/Marching, but when i hear RasPi i think of limits, so you should set the limits accordingly, 1280*720 is enough for everyone! Even for the biggest Big-Screen on the biggest Demoparty there is, Revision! Never heard any complaints about too low Resolution and being visible on that monster of a Screen at all! And i have been an organizer of that event for the first two installments! ;)
hArDy: you are right. :-) This is a quite young platform, there are no demo-standards for it yet, I think this is the first demo that tries to push the limits of this little machine. But 1280*720/30fps sounds a fair standard. :-)
added on the 2014-03-26 13:47:14 by blueghost blueghost
Is awesome, makes me want to resurrect my Pi. Which I almost never tried, because at the time I didn't had an HDMi monitor around me, and also problems with slow OS and expanded borders, so I forgot it in the box. But this demo makes me wanna try my Pi. Even 15fps with that visuals would be nice for the Pi, imagine such demos for OpenPandora or GCW0, wow.
added on the 2014-03-28 11:55:04 by Optimus Optimus
Although i am not fond of some of the colors that were chose and the background feels empty at times, i must admit that this production has a certain charm to it and feels unique. I enjoyed it.
rulez added on the 2014-03-28 11:57:47 by CONS CONS
you are pushing boundaries there for sure! good job! i kinda forgot about HOW limited a RaspPi is in the end! ;)
Is there no way to workaround the texel-fillrate? would be bad if postProcessing wouldn´t be doable, while everything else is! ;) i guess this is the thing PI-coders should target now, bettering fill-rates with clever-tricks. i have absolutely no idea btw, never tried to code these, dont own one and so on! ;) just trolling a bit! ;)
It was OK.

There's obvious talent in here, but it needs a lot of hard work to figure out the style still, in all aspects.

2 words about the music...

It perfectly expresses the moment when the deprived mass soul breaks the space-time continuum and reincarnates into the current reality, unaffected by the forces of the temptations of matter, having as its sole purpose the extraction of positive energy -love- and its elevation to light. The sound of the heartbeat that is heard rhythmically and quickly somewhere in the background, in some moments of the demo, expresses the "body" that is also the soul's grave. It ties in harmoniously with the main musical background of the demo. Somewhere in the middle of the demo, music discreetly changes temp and pitch, demonstrating -perhaps- the troubles and trials that soul must come across via a karmic sequence to its final goal, the supreme, bathed in radiant light of the peace of deification. Fates sometimes play us like puppets and we are taking our role of eternal and tragic dancers in a carousel of experiences and emotions that seem to have no continuity. Fates acting like invisible pranksters, want to test and torture us.

Maybe our souls come, go and come back, always trying to complete what they once could not. However there are some poetic, rare and secret moments, we visitors at the edge of the dream, with our limited senses, realize. Oblivion reigns in our real world. But there are times when we are invited. It is then that the accumulated, eternal and omnipotent love floods us, a real pandemonium in a magnificent eruption of the etheric, causing a heart attack of cosmic continuity as we are leave in. Our line of life instantly loses its shape and continuity. In these rare moments, the ephemeral world of "now" vibrates and shakes ...
