I recently had to reinstall my OS, so I could just as well volunteer as a guinea-pig for DX9.

I have a Geforce4 Ti4200 with the latest official detonator drivers, and I must say that I found no problems with demos in it. I found a few that would not work, but on the other hand I also found some that would work now that didn't before (like Bomb's 'State of Mind', first time I could see all of it!).

I did try 3D Mark 2001 as well, and there was no performance difference in my case.

directx has always had backwardscompatibility, those who code dx can notice that ;-)

dx9 seems nice btw.. now lets hope someone can get a radeon9700 or parhelia to the compomachine at cs ..

kb_: That kind of hack never works with php, in order for it work, the code should do something like eval ($outStr); :-) Only html/javascript code could execute like that. For example (another hack test):
<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="php">
location.href="http://www.macromedia.com"
</SCRIPT>
Also, the first function that good php admins disable in their php.ini for security reasons is phpinfo() :-)

dx9 (sdk)+runtime running here now. haven't noticed any problems so far (haven't had with any installation of dx2, dx3, dx5, dx6.1, dx7, or dx8 though :). the api changes rule.

now let's see what one can do with it :)

front243: State of Mind works here also with DX 8.1 since Bomb released a final/bugfix version of the win32 executable.

In the past I have installed new (final) versions of DX ASAP, so I done it finally also now. Actually I had no trouble with demos, but I noticed that the new version affects the well known 60Hz bug with the Detonator drivers. I ran several DX demos and they used now my standard 85Hz instead of 60Hz with DX 8.1 - so quite good news, isn't it? Used Detonator here is still the 29.42 for Win2000/XP
