scene music stolen

If anyone's at a loose end and feels like doing some research, how about digging up some information about the Casio vs Swizz Beatz (not Swissair as I previously transcribed ;-) ) case? The way Timmy tells it, Casio settled because they realised they had no case (because Swizz had "brought 'em keyboard") but surely if Casio initiated the action in the first place, Swizz must have settled with them because he knew he had no case?

(...reports on my desk by Monday please. I'll be marking on spelling and punctuation.)

Swizz Beatz (born Kasseem Dean on August 30, 1978) is a New York-based American hip hop record producer/rapper of African American, Jamaican & Puerto Rican descent, and founder of the music label Full Surface Records. His songs are usually very "bouncy" and energetic, though his early work was known to be quite minimalistic and arguably experimental—it reportedly took him an average of only 10 to 15 minutes to complete a song.

TIMBALAND IS KILLING THE DEMOSCENE

See it this way. Timbaland brings back the Scene to the U.S.
Don't ask him for money, ask him to do a demoparty. Like he can shout out on a concert "Kids, don't forget to go to demoparties!"

*ehum*

All artists steal from video games, its very unfair that more swedes are familiar with the chorus of Håkan Hellströms song Känn ingen sorg för mig Göteborg than the more hedgehog oriented original Ryan_Bury_Sonic_1_Bridge_Zone.mid

Our favorite forum Beat Club woke up with this!
Quote:

like tim said. he didn't sample the finish guy. it was a demo from the keyboard or rather module he has (c64).

that's hardly stealing.

and i agree with not crediting cause the business kills hip hop and ppl want credit for stuff when they are sampled and the track sounds nothing like their song.

You can just remove that humor article on pelulamu.net and replace it with this. Holy shit. :D

It's unfair for swedes to have to be familiar with Håkan Hellström, the guy can't sing at all. The only reason he is famous is that he looks as an energizer bunny on drugs on stage, which makes teenage girls go mad.

psychad: I think that he isn't going to feel safe at demoparties. At all :)

"Timbaland brands his allegations "foolish".
He tells MTV, "It makes me laugh. The part I don't understand, the dude is trying to act like I went to his house and took it from his computer.
"I don't know him from a can of paint. I'm 15 years deep. That's how you attack a king? You attack moi? Come on, man.
"You got to come correct. You the laughing stock. People are like, 'You can't be serious.'""

CUUUUUUUUUNT!
Misstake of me it seems MTV has made the interview themselfs...anyway Timbaland is repeating the "I'm Good"-argument

I heard the interview, as for sampling of studio equipment, eg.. midi modules... most makers got wise and started to DISABLE the midi out from the unit when the demo tune was playing (I know as my friend used to take the midi out and they stopped him doing it).

Theres comments which I'd love to make, but won't as this is a public forum and certain people are probably watching.

Being insulting to/about people shows a persons mentality.

This puzzles me.

Just got home from demobeer-meeting in Oslo so I'm quite drunk, but I must say.. I am _loving_ the current development this case is taking. :)

I had no idea "I'm awesome" was a legal defense.
added on the 2007-02-10 02:23:21 by crusader crusader
"I'm awesome" is actually the only defence he has, if it weren't for his other records and hits, his music days would be over by now. "I'm awsome" is the only reason anyone is defending him, not a good reason but the only one.

(Well ok, there is the "who the fuck cares"-people also, so there are two reasons for defending him)

Maybe we should try to get this on slashdot again. "Major label artist and producer doesn't give a shit about copyright law"-angle or something, they might pick it up.

I love how people are taking this. I don't think the buzz will reach the same heights as first time, but as his comments speak for themselves, he might just be in a bit more trouble.. :p

Preacher: submitted the story to Slashdot last night. Let's see if they pick it up.

I've just stuck my oar in at Beat club to make this point, but I think it bears repeating:

there's been a lot of speculation about the "it's from a video game, idiot" comment, including the suggestion that he's actually describing Tempest as "a video game idiot", which personally I don't buy.

I reckon he's actually referring to the C64 as a "video game", which, let's face it, is what it is to everyone in the world except us - and in that sense it's (sorta) accurate to say that the music is "from a video game". In other words, it was just his way of saying "what's the big deal? It's just from a crusty old computer."

Which is, of course, a complete non-answer to the copyright question, but manages to mislead people on both sides into thinking that he's accusing Tempest of stealing the tune himself.
