Interresting... is Timbaland playing with fire? This bass line has already ruined one rappers reputation. Although Timbaland has recreated the bass line and borrowed a much smaller part than Vanilla Ice (as if that would make the tune less repeative).
it wasnt the bassline that ruined ice's reputation :)
Preacher: I took that to mean "Tempest is a freaking jerk for kicking up a stink about some lousy video game music he wrote that's obviously public domain because it sounds like a demo tune from a Casio keyboard and doesn't come on shiny silver discs with female orgasmic moans overdubbed on top like my music does".
gargaj.. that Mr T quote... thing is in the interview's case.. that deffo can be knocked on the head...
it's like a driving instructor .... not knowing how to drive a car.
if you make/release music you come across many forms/paperwork .. heads of agreement forms etc. REPEATIDLY.
when you sign any contract with a record label, YOU the person who made the tunes takes liability for the content of the music including sampling.. normall all names are mentioned in the credits e.g.. a song >>
I like demos (garjag / gasman / shrimp)
as for vanilla Ice.. well he was in with Dr. Dre then some major label came along and tempted him with a big pile of money money. Hence his creditability went out the window.

as for vanilla ice.. if u listen to the lyrics...
"check out the hook, while the dj revolves it"
he's not even hiding the fact its "under pressure" besides that record was put out by a major.

Not entirely correct ("retro videogame console"), but overall I like that they at least tried to figure what the demoscene is.

Wow. Well, at least he admits using the tune, and he claims that since there was no copyright notice he couldn't know if it was public domain or not. So I guess the legal stuff will go though in Tempest's favor.
Kusma: Indeed. Not knowing where a sample is from does _not_ give you carte blanche to use it. If you cannot clear it, you cannot use it, and anyone with half a second of knowledge about the music industry knows this.
Tempest, fire up your lawyers; this gets more winnable by the day. :)

Goom: Precisely. He basically admits not knowing jack shit about copyrights, and pulls all gangsta attitude as the reasoning. Wow, that's impressive.
but Kusma, he's the KING! how *DARE* you question the KING! He's 15 years deep!!!
oh he's deep allright... except he might be wrong about the substance :)

do virtual onscreen keyboards count?
*comedy dreamcast vote*
Gargaj : nope , in the sense of DIRECTLY programmable.. e.g. no use of cross dev. via pc or add on boxs / emu's.. etc.. to send to the machine or to code. as in what u get get with the machine outta the shop and nothing more.
shifter : nope.. the keyboard was an optional extra, and really only used for the web browser and erm fantasty star online?!?! .. besides you code that cross dev/pc ? maybe code something using a distro of linux etc on it, but thats being pedantic right ;-)
although that adams-coleco thing from YEARS ago had a keyboard hhm =/

Clearly you have not heard of the most hilarious game spinoff ever: Typing of the Dead. It also worked for Quake 3.
And if were being bitchy about the keyboard being optional, be sure to throw out all those "optional" things like peripherals, carts, diskdrives and manuals :)
On a more serious note: it was a comedy option, not something to obsess about ;)

STREET FIGHTER 2 TURBO rumor is the best so far.
And guess what? There's nothing similar in the given part except for a generic chip-instrument arpeggio :)

The finnish artist has no claim over timbo's work because he didn't sample their work, he sampled STREET FIGHER 2 TURBRO! You clowns need to do your research and not believe every hyped up rummor!!!
The person behind this is trying some type of extortion.
