Cocoon: oh and more seriously, I hope you're just kidding in your statement.

Saying that Pavarotti brought nothing to the music (because he hasn't composed anything) would be like saying that Arthur Rubinstein brought nothing to the romantic piano, and especially Chopin.

Through his playing, Rubinstein has shown to the world that Chopin was the greatest piano composer ever. Before Rubinstein, it was considered as minor piano music...

Same for Gould with Bach, etc...

And I think it's the same for Pavarotti who has influenced a lot of artists and made of the opera a far more popular genre. Something less elitist culture-wise.
Well, a seat in L'Opéra de Paris is sometimes amazingly expensive (last time I checked it was 140 euros!!!) but... well, we know that opera exists at least ! ;)

You've got to be kidding. Gould is fucking awful to listen to. All one hears is "Hummmmm... Hummmmmm... Hummmmmmm..." I simply can't stand it. An overrated artsy-fartsy fruitcake, if there ever was one.

I'd like to see the scale equivalent of an opera as a demo, you know.

IMO the mainly tedious stuffs about opera are:
1. Usually difficult word understanding of what is singed
2. Point of view in the teathre: I think it's crucial, really.
