someone has unbanned some of the users without contacting me.
either its someone with admin rights, or someone from scene.org staff, or someone hacked access to database. i assume if it was a hack they would do something more then just unban a couple of banned users.
i'll take the lack of contact prior to the unbans as an insult to the time i been wasting in this joint. therefor i resign my duties as admin and let whoever is letting the clowns back into the circus to run the business as they see fit.
have fun.

who the FUCK did that?.. if this was no hack, but someone was interfering with what ps is doing, then, out of solidarity, i will stop contributiong to this project of which i singlehandedly built up 1/10 of the database. the banning of obvious fucktards was the last hope for this project, and if someone is being as counterproductive, then there is no hope.
have fun dancing on the ruins.

dip:
Nice math there, youve added ca 2000 prod out of circa 3300, something like 6%, jsyk. Plus youre adding so much crap you could be considered a troll.

About this "active sceners" part, I don't see many active sceners in this thread (and no i do not consider myself being an active demoscener).

ps: might as well set a userlevel for them

Whatever kind of penal action you take, it won't keep trolls away.
Or, at least I don't think so, that is....

But I totally support Doom in saying that banning people due to "idiocy" and "nonsense" puts a subjective spin on Pouet. It's a grey zone. Of course there has to be someone "minding the herd", but the herd should be allowed to go pretty much everywhere, as long as it doesn't harm the herd in general (I just LOVE metaphors this morning, sorry).

So, what I'm trying to say is that the users of pouet should have the power - not the moderator (you, ps). If the users find trolling too frequently found here, they have the choice to go somewhere else or perhaps find other ways to punish the trolls. I just fear that the possibility of being banned will put unwanted restrains on users from now on.
Nutman, gasman replied to your post even before you wrote it! omg prescience!!1

Subjective is good. Otherwise, you just get another breed of trolls who spend their time dancing around the rules and seeing how annoying they can be without technically breaking any of them. Also known as the "child porn is banned, so I'll flood the boards with lolicon manga instead" effect.

Say it after me: D-R-A-M-A-Q-U-E-E-N.

Really, if this kind of shit has such an impact on your mood, better stop using the internet, huh? The best advice for new internet users AND new sceners would probably be: You WILL get screwed over once in a while - DEAL WITH IT! And never stop looking for those rare gems (another metaphor, sorry) that are actually genuine and well-meaning.

And, ps, what the fuck is up with posting such a post directly to all the users? It's a kind of scare tactics that I really feel was misplaced (like so many other scare tactics are) - keep it inside the moderators/webmaster team. If the issue cannot be resolved there, THEN go public with it. To my taste you're waaaaay too emotional with this - meaybe it's because I don't realise what your interest and involvement in this "thing" really is, dunno. But seriously, be a man about it and STEP UP TO IT.

Again, one might say that I should DEFINATELY read the rest of the thread before replying...

But then again - that does not change the fact theat I think that you, ps, quite often react very violently - really out of proportion, I think. Yes, we are different, you and I, and I really have a hard time understanding why this is such a big issue. I, personally, LOVE the idea of a totally un-moderated forum - a sandbox of opinions, where the users moderate themselves. It's very rare in the society we have here in Denmark, so maybe that's why I adore it so much. Please don't kill it with moderating based on personal preferences!
Brave move. But enforcing a ban on the bbs seems a bit futile, given the fact that a solid percentage of the regular posters here haven't really earned their say when it comes to demoscene stuff anyway. Consequently, I doubt that the bbs will become more "demo" than it is now.

The pouet bbs (as distinguished from the database) is an arena of social dysfunctionality, and with that as a starting point you'll have a hell of a job rooting out what is "nonsensical idiocy on useful discussions", "insulting other users for speaking their mind" and "starting useless bbs topics". The only ban that I find to work is the ban I put on myself from spending time in here. I know what's in here, so I don't go here unless I want to shove my nose in the dirt.

It's kind of like the karriwürst. Don't eat it if you don't feel like fucking up your guts. But of course, ps, I really really understand that you don't feel like have one every damn day of the week.

Hey! That's the best thread ever made!
PS is, right now, my favourite troll! ;)

Seriously, ps, you must reconsider what you are proposing... don't feed the (wannabe) trolls with a war! ;)

Quote:

reasons for ban include:
- reocurringly adding fake productions to database
- reocurringly starting useless bbs topics
- reoccuringly posting nonsensical idiocy on useful discussions
- reoccuringly insulting other users for speaking their mind
- reoccuringly starting flamewars with other users

I think that is fine to ban users who add, reoccuringly, fake prods to the database. That's a good reason for sure.
I disagree with most of the other reasons. Mainly because pouet BBS NEVER has been a "serious" place and never will be.

I suggest to split the BBS into two parts, one moderated and "serious" -for me and other active sceners like command cyborg, for example (we need it to start secret flame wars talking about world domination in M68020 assembler only) - and other part, without moderation... for the rest of the trolls of the scene ;)

Oh, and I fully support the idea of a banning-option that is based upon the majority of the users, not the webmasters.

Quote of the day.
by the way.. people on this thread have said "there's other places where one can go for serious demoscene discussion, so leave the pouet bbs for the trolls". like where? :) i've obviously missed a good forum out there somewhere. the scene.org forums are basically dead, and bitfellas is definately less trolltastic but doesn't really have more "serious demoscene discussion" than pouet does.
