I think it was Nutman who said it in the Stockhausen thread, that he loves to share good music. So do I.

I thought why not start a thread based on that. I found new and interesting music from that Stockhausen thread, like Carlos Paredes and Oliver Messianen. Maybe that will happen more through this thread. The idea is to present music that the consuming public is not aware of; lost gems and not the good stuff everybody knows.

Also: if you don't like the music presented in this thread, then keep your mouth shut.

I'll start off with some music from Brazil.

The fantastic singer Elis Regina performs Upa Neguinho, a piece by Edu lobo.

Here's Edu himself, this time performing Luiza with it's composer, Antonio Carlos Jobim.

Hermeto Pascoal's song Slaves Mass mixed with a Maine County fair pig scramble. Suits well.

Youtube has tons of videos about Hermeto doing all sorts of crazy things, like performing with frogs, doing a solo on his beard, using kid's filled water pool as a percussion etc. Although he might be more known of his musical eccentricity, he is also a very interesting and active composer with a musical language of his own.

hempest: i like that first one. A few I like:

Joanna Newsom (not the best of recordings, but try her last album 'Ys')

More classical: Max Richter (all of his albums so far have been great).

@gargaj: Does edIT still sound the same on all tracks of this album? this is what dissappointed myself back years ago with his release... it was nice and all, but all the time the same manipulations and the same harmonies in his chords, the same arpegios... it was sounding like the same track all along.
@psonice: up for Joanna Newsom though, to me, "Ys" is the best recording.

and considering neo-classic ambient, stars of the lid are touring europe right now, saw them live in lisbon a few days ago, was fucking great, i recomend it to everyone and their mothers.

also, instead of listening to aphex leftovers in the tuss, check out this porject called seven ark. you'll like it :) and venetian snares' latest masterpiece: my downfall ost, fucking great, very close to ross cilag in some senses.

dude come on, this is not bad leftovers at all, some tracks on this release have magis inside :)

PS: not tried either, and I won't be doing so for a while. I realised a while back that I had around 20gb of mp3 piled up and waiting to be checked out, so I'm not getting into anything new until that lot is cleared. 5.6gb left.. :) I'll check out both though in a month or two.
