maybe someone already said but "into the neon rain" doesn't work and it is all preachers fault

bk237: I kkaptured "into the neon rain" two weeks ago and it worked just fine, so it's most probably a machine-specific bug.

Traction & Brainstorm - Fairytale working perfectly
added on the 2008-01-28 12:20:17 by raer raer
doesn't work for me at all, tested on >3 different machines.
capturing process seems ok, but after capturing .avi file is not readable, due to "unknown codec". i tried all codecs, and get the same result, even with "uncompression". i just cant see what i captured. surely, i have all the codecs installed.
what i do wrong?

Do you have huffyuv installed and tried using the VFW encoder?
added on the 2008-01-30 09:56:42 by raer raer
yes i have. tried using all codecs, and huffyuv 2.1.1 too. got nothing but
"cannot render the file".

some more information about the machine please. and a logfile would be great.

Is this what the video PLAYER tells you? What player are you using?
added on the 2008-01-30 14:20:02 by raer raer
yes, player. i tried much of them, some players tell "unknown codec" some "bad file" or "cannot render". i used wm9, media player classic, light alloy, crystal player, BSPlayer and someone else i never used before, i dont remember.

the graphics card and ram isn't particularly relevant - i was hoping to get some details on the windows version used (including language, since there are significant issues with video for windows on swedish-language windows versions for some reason - not just with kkapture, this is a general problem). file size of the resulting avi file would also help (if it's 0 bytes, something went wrong). and maybe just do a 5-second, 15fps, low-resolution capture of something and upload the avi somewhere so i can have a look.

sq, if you are still lost:
- How big is the resulting file(s)?
- Are you sure you used ".AVI (VfW, segmented)" as the encoder and "HuffyUV" as the video codec?
- Did the demo crash/lock up at the end? Try pressing CTRL-BREAK then so the file gets closed properly...
- Have you tried using VLC (VideoLAN) for playback?
- Have you tried opening the file(s) with a video editor like Avidemux2 or VirtualDub?
- Can you encode/view videos using a video editor (see above) and huffyuv?

Camden town is not working.

Good news:

Haujobb - Liquid... wen? --> working
Maturefurk - Lapsus --> working
Kewlers - Variform --> working

Bad news:
Threestate has leading when it comes to being incompatible with kkapture:
Threestate - Lost Vegas is not working. It seems to need keypressed or mouse moves to repaint itself...

rarefluid: Sounds like the same winxp-bug as some haujobb-software rendered prods.
added on the 2008-04-28 18:03:58 by kusma kusma
what causes that bug? any ideas for a solution?
added on the 2008-04-28 18:13:17 by raer raer
I believe the bug is simply that winxp has reduced the amount of WM_PAINT-messages sent to applications, and the demos rely on getting these at some points, but I don't know any specifics. Perhaps you can modify the kkapture-source to send a WM_PAINT-message to the foreground-window for every frame it tries to capture?

Maybe I'll fire up IDA when I'm home and see what's going on... Then again... maybe not :)

I did capture threestate's lost vegas by continuously pressing the shift key.
