Loader - an almost useless piece of software
category: general [glöplog]
Loader
What this program does is load, load and load - it loads packages, copies files back and forth, sets up virtual drives, interacts with the kernel and when the meter is at 100% percent it loads the next package and keeps on going. Loading never stops - only when you shut it off.
The app is absolutely safe, it never does what it says. Because no thing in the world can be totally useless, someone may find it useful. What are the possible uses? Well, you can start up a couple and people will see your computer is busy - sometimes this is handy and may explain why you cannot do your work and instead loiter around with a beer )

Source available by request (though who would want it is beyond me)

YEAH.
Too bad you didn't live 17 years ago -there were useless utilities compos back then.
How do you know this troll is younger that 17?
*than
Poor wording on my part. I meant that this lovely waste of space would have had its' time and place 17 years back.
Well... look at it as a nostalgic comeback.
The power of free as in freedom software!
(sorry, couldn't resist :D)

the power of a useless thing is that it is very difficult to throw it away because it's cute )))
True that. Plus, it can be ported to other platforms. Useless AMiIIGAA or NDS loader, anyone? :)
Actually, I wrote that with wxWidgets which are cross platform. =)
You know, it *might* be useful if it wouldn't solve the rubix cube now and then...
3mb for such a joke-program?
There's got to be something to load!
If anyone's interested I can make a version which does not have the Rubik and omelet puns, though I can tell you it is very unlikely someone will notice =)
Stress-testing applications (especially multi-threaded ones) by overloading the system makes perfect sense.
I used to make "programs that looked busy while showing my company's logo, while doing nothing, but with some progress bars and technical labels" for some of my customers :-)
And I'm -really- not ashamed of that, go figure :D

That loader program is useless because it can't save.
Get "Festplattenvollmacher Professional" to actually fill up your harddrive with random stuff so you can go and buy a bigger one. This is useful because sooner or later everybody fills up their harddrive with random stuff, and doing this more quickly just saves you a lot of time. So there...

Google didn't found anything named "Festplattenvollmacher Professional"... :( This gives me an idea:
1. Create "Festplattenvollmacher Professional" (and lite too, to seem even more professional)
2. ???
3. PROFIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111!

Great!
I wonder how long it will take Apple to approve/reject "Festplattenvollmacher"...

noname: filling your HD with junk also has a great utiliy: you can no longer recover what you could have deleted. I remember an app for Mac was just doing that: fill you drive to the max and then erase the filler, just so no one can trace what you could have had on your drive.
now indeed leaving the data there so you have to *find* and delete it yourself is just bonus :)

Bart's Stuff Test can fill up storage media pretty fast and easy.
Okay, I have worked more on the app and have delivered two solutions - for home and office use.
The first app does have a couple of goofy lines flashing from time to time, the enterprise version is all damn serious and has no jokes at all - so feel free to use it in your office.
Another neat feature that was added was a random background color and size of window, so that each Loader that you start up looks a bit different from the previous one. That way you can start up several Loaders at once and it would feel that you are installing/running several serious applications.
Here are the download links:

And a Russian version of Loader:
