ASSEMBLY 2009

category: general [glöplog]
Decided to start a thread, before somebody starts it for me asking "wtf, no thread for ASM" like last year ;-).

<3 to BP orgas for the CASHEMBLY stock ticker symbol! ;-) We are making it true with 45 000 euros total prize pool. All 1st position prizes are pure cash. Demo compo winnner nets 7000 euros pure cash and participates automatically in the final of Live 2011 GP (total prize pool 140 000 euros).

More at http://www.assembly.org/summer09/news/compos/asm2009-prizes

The prize pool is courtesy of our sponsors like Microsoft. They are also throwing in extra prizes for specialty compos (Windows Mobile, Silverlight). More at: http://www.assembly.org/summer09/news/compos/microsoft-competitions

Oh yeah, ticket sales are also going well (~2k tix sold, 500 left). Plenty of people going to be there to enjoy your prods on our actual size screen and line array speakers.

Pretty cool seminar lineup also coming up (hope to shed some light on that in two-three weeks). Still a few spots left, so if you have a cool topic, drop me an email (abyss AT assembly DOT org).

I'm looking for people to join the demoscene outreach panel (last year Leia, Smash, Reed, Dixan and me). If you are into a panel discussion and persuading people to start making demos, drop me an email!

Altogether we are rocking for the 18th year. True tradition baby.

Navis, years 2010, 2011, 2012 and so on. =) I thought I'd hit a crisis when I got kids and that would change my priorities, but actually it just had made me want to keep on organizing even more (a little break away from the kids =)).

Looking forward to catching up with everybody at the party!

Abyss:
Thanks for finally changing the HW prizes into the thing that will definitely warm up also the wifes and husbands of the content creators so much more than for example a brand new Quadro FX. As those cards may be expensive, they still might have been hard to sell and virtually with no performance gain compared to some game play targeted production lines. Definite ground touch was to give those fingertip readers few years ago, very nice to hear that these times lay in the past now.

And PS. in case you anyhow choose to give ADDITIONAL HW prizes (meaning addition to the pure cash) in the future, please select something not so usual in the coders community, for example latest game consoles. Personally I'm still waiting for the PS3 to come down enough in the prize before being able to buy that beauty.

And finally question for demogroups: are you making demo/intro contribution to the assembly this year? I certainly hope not to see as poor quality as we saw in the BP demo compo repeated.

And my answer to my question is: Yes. :)

And PS. in case we already win or bought a PS3, please add additional ps3 games to your prices , except gta 4 ( i already have it ) and tennis games ( i hate them ).

Thanks dude , more PS3 games = more demos ... for sure ... Yeah ...

And PS. in case you already have PS3, stop whining.

And PS3. start making some demos on it.

Deepr: the ratio of hardware to money depends entirely on our sponsors. This year we've managed to wrangle more pure cash out of them --> more cash in prizes, but it is by no means a guarantee that the same will repeat next year.

And no, I don't expect to be able to handout PS3s when Microsoft along with Xbox is a main sponsor (as is likely to be next year too).

As for the Quadros, at least those beat the thumbnail scanners! ;-)

Whoa! thumbnail scanners.. when were those handed out? we only got thumbprint scanners... i want a nail scanner to accompany the other one.

and seriously, abyss: awesome work with the cash prizes. Let's hope we'll have energy to do a demo for asm this year.

Abyss: allright :)

And xPokS3(60), the X360 would also be a nice addition into the compo prizes, as I haven't yet got one but for a true knowledge of the world that device is a must have. Also I've heard it can be a very nice platform to develop demos on...

Uncle-x, yeah that has got go down in history along with my infamous "basketball bat" reference. No wonder the Assembly website (most content by yours truly) is such rich source of tongue twisting English ;-).

Deepr, how about winning the demo compo, getting some cash and going to a store and buying an Xbox 360? ;-) I'll see you at the stage at the prize ceremony!

ah, real cash prizes. should be fun for a change!

not that i expect to enter or attend, but maybe it would be a good idea to make demo, 64k and 4k have equally much prizemoney? afair this is not very common, and imho unfairly so. looking at last years's winners, the demo compo can hardly be considered the most important and spectacular one..

skrebbel, afaik they adjust the amount of prize money according to the compo quality.
