Scene.org Awards 2011

category: parties [glöplog]
Well I think KRAUTFEST would be the right place to go. I can't imagine another party that fits better. Plus, I'll definitely go there, whereas I probably won't attend TG.

... talking about the place for scene.org awards that is, of course.

Just cancel Scene.org Awards 2011, then bring back the event in 2012, and everyone will be happy, no matter to the hosting location.

Rowley: The current plan is for the last Blockparty to be held in the Bay Area in September of 2011. While I understand crazy-ass lead times with conventions and parties, neither RaD Man or I want to start making major plans until the new year. But that's the rough plan.

We moved from Notacon this year, and they're starting their own demoparty, and that's April of 2011. So North America gets three demoparties next year - take your pick!

I for one am surprised that people care this much about the scene.org awards.

It's not so much that they care about the awards, as it is that they don't particularly like the gathering and take every opportunity to bash it, me thinks.

jscott: fair enough, i had guessed it would be earlier in the years based on this year's date, but smth like 6-9 months is enough time to make plans for the journey :)

We figured that we shouldn't be competing against whatever Notacon was doing, and this way the three parties are spread across the year. Plus September is when the best demoparties are held, we've heard from video card companies.

the most important question is, how is all this going to work out in practice?
how would you lure the nominees to TG while the actual demoparty* is taking place someplace else?

*considering the fact that certain demoparty is going to happen. :)

perhaps now there is enough money to buy all nominees flight tickets? =)

And be accused of buying productions as well as awards? Yeah, that sounds like something we'd love to do :)

first of all.. i really respect loogie, gloom, leia, duckers, sesse, menace etc etc.. who are all involved with TG. i think it is great that you step up and take some responsibility as far as the scene awards go.

having said that.. there is no way in hell you will ever drag me to TG (again). yes, i was there two years ago and it was one of the worst experiences of my life. i was also there in 2002 or 2003.. with pantaloon and co.. we ended up at a bar in hamar centrum and got hammered. then we slept in a car. we really had nothing to do inside the hall. i am aware this has changed a little for the better lately.

the point is.. i am old as fucking hell. my only reason for going to a party is to hang out, get drunk (so kill me) and have a great time with my friends on the demoscene. also i would love to enjoy all the various compos without sharing the experience with the most annoying people on the planet.. and that is 12-13-14 year old gamers. i am sorry.. but that is how i fell. at solskogen i had to listen to the sidbox for 36 hours straight as it was right next to my bed. that is NOTHING compared to the noise and various crap you get inside the vikingship in just ONE hour.

once again, i am sorry.. but this was my honest opinion :/

Well; at least you got entertained by some good old kickass sidmusic. And you probably had enough booze to sleep just fine anyway ;)

oh yeah, the sidbox is awesome :) and sometimes a bit too loud 9 in the morning hehehe..

Next year we will load the Sidbox with the vuvuzela SID and put it next to the field during the soccer compo.

Sesse: haha!! ... and buy earplugs for the neighbours perhaps? :)

Nosfe might volunteer handing them earplugs out - since he is most probably going to visit some random neighbours anyway ;)

Response: So, when will the sidbox get that amiga mod support I was bugging you about? Quit loitering, get to work! Solskogen is just 10 short months away!

TG08 was the direct reason for me to step up and get involved in organizing TG. Never thought I'd be ashamed on behalf of a party I had no responsibility for, but seeing that blonde bitch make a laughing stock out of the party and the Norwegian scene filled me with a weird mixture of cringe and rage. In turn, that energy went into more constructive work as we set out to rebuild the scene at TG.

So while I don't think I can promise you enough to make you want to go, I can you promise you and everyone else that the train wreck that was TG08 will not be repeated as long as I'm involved. To paraphrase Smash: "It's a fucking phoenix!!"

Oh my, reading through this topic really shattered my stand on certain people.

TG orgas:
I think some of the reasons of why many sceners do not welcome this move is the picture everyone shaped about TG every year at Breakpoint during the mandatory video connection: a frighteningly empty audience in a place that doesn't look like a proper demoparty at all, with people noone knew. Coupled with the awkwardness of communication due to lag, at some point I honestly started to think it only had the role of comic relief in the show.

So... you really need to work on that image of yours :)

But I really hope you succeed with it, so best of luck to all of you.

ps. I am amazed how the allowance of alcohol can at any level be decisive in the question of the location for the awards. That just does not compute.

it can be decisive on the question whether to go to a party or not.
added on the 2010-09-04 02:26:39 by dipswitch dipswitch
zoom: FWIW, the place you've been seeing on the video stream is a closed auditorium used mainly for presentations, seminars, movie showings and the likes. It is not the main party hall, and the demoscene area is not in the auditorium.

I was sure of that, but unfortunately it still does not really help when it's the only picture of the party that sticks in your head :)

then go back 2-3-4 pages and look at the pictures posted from last year during compos, that was quite convincing
