Hasn't there been other atom based systems under the commodore label as well? The previous one being nothing like commodore64 except for the same form-factor idea.

Not to mention commodore gaming PCs a while back.
or the commodore labelled CDrom blanks. ;)

Don't forget the 1998 commodore made keyboard dustcovers!

There were pics somewhere. It's a little PC, in a c64-like case. You could see the dvd drive in there and stuff. No keyboard though, but the holes for it looked c64 rather than pc shaped (meaning it could look quite authentic, but will probably suck as a pc keyboard).

Could make a nice machine for a c64 emulator, for some diehard c64 fan I guess. Otherwise, just another sad paragraph in that sad, sad story of commodore.

Prototype Pictures

They seem pretty serious about it, working on their "own" OS and stuff. And seeing as they've hooked up with Disney they must have some idea.

But if it will be a big sales hit is rather doubtfull. "ordenary" people won't see the point of having the breadbox. So will only be for us freaks ;)

This one however could maybe make some commercial sucess if markeded good enuff.

C=64 will never come back. It is exclusive to those who exsisted while it lasted. All others will only have a retrospective look at it. Those were the 80s and early 90s. No cellphones, no internet. It was the true 8-bit era. All that comes after it is not the original and will never feel the same. We, who had the chance to experience it, turn thousands of hours of our youth into a digital memory and every mothers nightmare, we are the veterans and spearhead of a generation upon whom the optimal dose of digital sunlight was shining. We were heroes. On our side of the video screen.

tft: ditch the trackpad, and pair it wirelessly with a tablet. Now that could be cool, supplying the stuff a tablet lacks for when you need it. Ditch the commodore logo too, unless they're going to do something decent again ;)

I don't see the point other than the retro computer case. Buy a laptop and install some emulators on it - you even have a built in screen there.

i really doubt if disney knows about/is happy with the crappy way they're represented on that site, it's probably just another scam

Only reason of getting one of those would be to infiltrate a c64 party..

i would actually find it pretty awesome, if the os could be hacked and some linux dist or windows could be installed instead. the casing looks awesome :-)
^^ please remind me to read the entire article before posting.

it seems that it really is a breadbox with ubuntu on it. so no problems! :)
I think this Commodore restart will be a success!

(lol)

That C16 should be a Plus/4. *sigh*

I hope they made the disk access as painfully slow as on the original C64.

yeah this will get you as close to the original c64 as firing up you VICE emulator. nothing to gain except a oldschool-style case for your PC (but seriously, there are better/cheaper ones...).
the "commodore OS" is just another linux distro, probably based on debian or any other barebone distro with some preinstalled c64 themes/games/emulators.
