saga: the tune I mentioned: it's an mp3 ;) Maybe it was a different player anyway, but it was around the winamp time (99-2000ish). There was no pitch shifting for sure, just simple slowdown/speedup.

pitch/speed were just supported for modules not mp3s.

speed controls tick rate, pitch controls... well, pitch :). not a pitch shifter, just affects the rate that samples are played back at.

i perfectly remember taking Britney Spears and slowing her down by a small percent to make her sound exactly like Back Streets Boys. Weird, i know. I grew with two sisters. Anyway, I'm pretty sure you could control speed for mp3...
