Hahaha! This is by far the most far-out spin-off-into-the-distance thread, I've ever read! :-D

: you can download the video from vimeo, it's pretty high quality already (maybe you need a vimeo account to download, can't remember but the download link is on the right somewhere down the page).

Let me try to understand this... wade likes jazz, and young looking girls...

hmm, HD seems to be turned on but yet the framerate does not seem to be constant.

A frame-by-frame capture would be nice.

Wow, I thought that pouet would stop to astounish myself but hey, here, I think we're having a funny turn.

Wade, how old are you, seriously man, because I'm really wondering! Not saying you are immature or anything but... seriously.

Knl: I'm 34, and I'm the first to admit I'm immature. It's not an insult to me. I don't have the patience to take everything seriously any more.

I just don't see how my tastes for retro music and big breasted women can be wrong...

Gargaj: That's very true, but the same applies to everyone who dismisses Vallejo, Tron and alike just because it's mainstream.

Certainly (and they might argue about proportions), but that wasn't my point. Point is that both ends of the spectrum have a perfectly valid reason to exist the way they are, and berating them as "improper" while clearly being aware that you're biased against it feels like having a deliberate chip on your shoulder. If you do feel you have to comment on them, at least try to put them into perspective.

That applies both ways. When I compared this demo to Tron Legacy, it was actually a compliment, but somehow people got offended and outraged, as if Unc's demo is something deep and intellectual and Tron Legacy is trash. Now that strikes me as having a chip on one's shoulder.

I don't see where demos went from being a bit of fun and a chance to show off some skills to these deep and moving experiences that so many sceners claim to have.

I actually suppose some sceners indeed prefer deep and moving experiences like enjoying women the way they are.

I think the problem here was that you implied that it was a Tron-derivative, denying the originality of it. (I admit I personally enjoyed Tron Legacy visually, but thought the soundtrack was massively cliched and predictable.)

How exactly are they mutually exclusive? What exactly is wrong with having an atmosphere in the demo?

I'm sorry, but as much as I enjoyed the visuals and respect Unc's skills, there wasnt' anything original about it and it did look at lot like Tron.

Atmosphere in a demo is great of course, and even the least technical demos can be fun to watch for their atmosphere, but (with a few exceptions) there's nothing profound about any demo. They're just a bit of fun with pretty visuals, and no different to a mindless action film like Tron.
